Character Background
A mysterious, dapper gentleman created specifically by LEGO to celebrate the milestone of the 10th series of Collectible Minifigures. He has since become the 'Holy Grail' of modern LEGO collecting.
Design Notes
First ever LEGO figure to be specifically marketed as a limited-edition chase item within a standard retail assortment. Used Pearl Gold rather than Chrome Gold to ensure better durability of the finish.
Similar Minifigures
Chrome Gold C-3PO (30th Anniversary), Gold Ninja Lloyd (Ten Year Anniversary), or Solid 14k Gold C-3PO (Ultra-rare prototype).
Collectibility
Highest possible level. As one of only 5,000 produced, it is the centerpiece of any serious CMF collection and continues to appreciate significantly.
History
Released in early 2013. LEGO hid 5,000 units in Series 10 blind bags worldwide. Each came with a code to register the find on a map on the official LEGO website, which is now archived.
Interesting Facts
Despite the 'Gold' name, the figure is made of Pearl Gold plastic, not real gold. There were reports of people using kitchen scales in stores to find him, as his staff and jewel made the bag slightly heavier.
Display Suggestions
Should be kept in a UV-protected acrylic case. A 'floating' frame or a dedicated armored display box is recommended due to its high value.
Modification Potential
Extremely Low. Any modification or even excessive handling would significantly decrease the market value.
Overall Assessment
The definitive status symbol for LEGO collectors. While the design is simple, its scarcity and historical impact on the 'chase' hobby make it a 10/10 in desirability.
