Legends of Chima

Year Released

Released in 2015. This era saw the height of complex mold designs and translucent parts in the Chima line, coinciding with the third and final season of the TV series.

Rarity

Uncommon. While not a limited promotional item, Voom Voom only appeared in two sets during the final wave of Chima, making him harder to find than core tribe members.

Head

White head with the Vulture tribe's distinctive hooked grey beak, pale blue eyes, and purple/pink 'flesh' detail around the left eye showing the character's skeletal/frozen nature. Single-sided printing.

Torso

White torso with highly detailed printing of bone-like ribbing and purple tattered cloth. Features grey hands. Covered by a Trans-Light Blue armor piece with CHI crystal orb centerpiece.

Legs

Asymmetrical design: the right leg is Trans-Light Blue (representing ice) while the left leg is white with bone and claw printing. Dark bluish grey hips with matching tattered cloth prints.

Accessories

Includes a Trans-Light Blue chest armor piece (Part 15407). This specific figure is missing his large brick-built wings and scaveng-er weapon usually included in sets.

Color Scheme

A striking mix of white, dark bluish grey, and Trans-Light Blue, accented with small hits of purple. This palette is iconic to the Ice Hunters faction.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the head, torso (front and back), and legs (front). The alignment between the hip and leg prints is a key quality marker for this era.

Variants

Only one official version of Voom Voom exists (loc103). He differs from other Vultures like Vardy (loc091) or Vultrix by his specific leg translucent patterns.

Condition Notes

Susceptible to 'silvering' or scratches on the translucent leg piece. Check for stress marks on the torso where the armor attaches and ensure the arm joints are tight.

Estimated Value

Current market value for a used complete figure (with wings) is approximately 8-12 USD. In the current state (missing wings/weapon), value is closer to 4-6 USD.

Price (New)

Originally appeared in sets ranging from 14.99 USD to 39.99 USD. Not available as a standalone blister pack.

Compatible Sets

70222 Tormak's Shadow Blazer and 70223 Icebite's Claw Driller.

Character Background

Voom Voom is a member of the Vulture Tribe, part of the Ice Hunters. In the series, he is depicted as somewhat incompetent and frantic, often getting caught in his own traps or flying erratically.

Design Notes

The use of the 1x2 transparent leg piece was a major innovation in the Chima line to represent the frozen/ethereal nature of the prehistoric antagonists.

Similar Minifigures

Vardy (loc091), Vultrix (loc102), and various members of the Ice Bear or Saber-tooth Tiger tribes.

Collectibility

Moderate. Chima has a dedicated cult following. This figure is desirable for those completing the Ice Hunter faction, but demand is stable rather than skyrocketing.

History

Chima was LEGO's 'Big Bang' theme following Ninjago's temporary retirement. Voom Voom represents the final, most complex design phase of the theme before it was discontinued.

Interesting Facts

The Vulture tribe figures are among the few LEGO characters that use the 'bird beak' printing directly on a standard minifigure head rather than a molded headpiece.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed in a 'frozen' diorama or on a tiered stand with other Ice Hunters to highlight the contrast between the white plastic and translucent blue parts.

Modification Potential

The translucent legs are highly sought after by MOC builders for creating ghosts, ice-themed heroes, or robots.

Overall Assessment

A visually unique minifigure that showcases LEGO's 2015 printing capabilities. Despite missing accessories, the torso and leg elements remain high-quality collector pieces.
