Boba Fett - White Armor (Prototype)

Figure ID

sw0631

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2015 - Released as an exclusive inclusion in the LEGO Star Wars: Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded book.

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. While it was mass-produced for a book, it was never featured in a standard retail set, making it a sought-after exclusive for bounty hunter collectors.

Head

Features a standard light flesh-toned head with the 'angry clone' face print (scowl, dark tan lines under eyes). The helmet is the modern Boba Fett mold but cast in white with a unique green and red T-visor/mandibles print.

Torso

White torso base with detailed printing of Boba Fett's armor plates in sand green. It includes the distinctive chest symbols, brown utility belt, and back printing of the jetpack harness and armor plating.

Legs

White legs with printing on the hips and front of the legs. The hip piece includes the continuation of the brown utility belt, and the legs feature light grey and yellow armor/pocket detailing on the knees.

Accessories

Includes a unique white rangefinder/antenna attached to the helmet and a standard black blaster rifle (specifically the small blaster pistol/EE-3 carbine style). It lacks the fabric cape seen on other Boba Fett variants to mimic the 'clean' prototype look.

Color Scheme

Primarily White with Sand Green armor plates, Red and Dark Green visor accents, and Brown/Tan belt and utility detailing. This mimics Joe Johnston's original 'Supertrooper' concept design.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing typical of 2015. Detail is localized to the front and back of the torso, the visor of the helmet, and the front of the legs/hips. No arm or side-leg printing.

Variants

This is a redesign of the 2010 'Polybag' version (sw0275). This 2015 version (sw0631) has much more detailed leg and torso printing compared to the original, which had plain white legs.

Condition Notes

Prone to yellowing if displayed in sunlight due to the all-white plastic. Check for hairline cracks in the heels and torso sides. The helmet printing can sometimes be misaligned (off-center visor).

Estimated Value

Used: $25 - $40. New (with book): $50 - $70. The figure alone holds most of the value of the book it came with.

Price (New)

Originally sold as part of the Character Encyclopedia which retailed for approximately $18.99 USD.

Character Background

Based on the 1978 'Supertrooper' prototype armor designed by Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie for The Empire Strikes Back. Before being painted in the iconic green/brown, Boba Fett was intended to be an evolved version of a Stormtrooper in all-white armor.

Design Notes

A clever use of the existing Boba Fett mold. It serves as a historical tribute to the filmmaking process of the Star Wars trilogy, bridging the gap between LEGO play and film history.

Similar Minifigures

Boba Fett (sw0275 - 2010 White Version), Boba Fett (sw1158 - Classic), and various Stormtrooper variants.

Collectibility

High. Completionists for the Boba Fett sub-collection consider this a mandatory piece. It has remained stable in value over the last 5 years.

History

First appeared as a low-detail polybag in 2010 for the 30th Anniversary of Empire Strikes Back. This 2015 version represents the 'definitive' version of the concept character with modern printing standards.

Interesting Facts

The 'prototype' armor was actually filmed in a screen test where it featured a beach-towel-like cape, which is why some fans customize this figure with a custom white cloth piece.

Display Suggestions

Display alongside other 'concept' figures or in a 'History of Boba Fett' lineup including his classic, Mandalorian, and Book of Boba Fett iterations. Use a white or clear stand to maintain the 'clean' aesthetic.

Modification Potential

Commonly modified with a custom white fabric pauldron or cape. The torso and legs are popular for 'White Mandalorian' MOCs (My Own Creations).

Overall Assessment

An excellent collector's piece that offers a unique aesthetic shift from the typical grime-covered Star Wars universe. It is a high-quality figure with significant historical weight for the franchise.
