Theme
Legends of Chima
Year Released
2015. This figure was released during the third and final wave of the Chima theme, which focused on the conflict between the Fire Tribe and the Ice Hunters. It debuted in the 'Vulture's Ice Striker' set.
Rarity
Uncommon. While not a limited-edition promotional figure, it was only available in two sets near the end of the Chima theme's production run, making it harder to find than early Eagle or Raven tribe members.
Head
White head with vulture features. It features a grey beak, blue eyes with black pupils, a purple 'bruised' eye effect on the left, and cracked/exposed skull details including a bone print on top. Dual-sided printing is absent.
Torso
White torso with ice zombie aesthetics. Printing shows a ribbed ribcage/bone sash in sand green, purple tattered cloth on the right side, and a dark bluish-grey belt. The arms are white with dark bluish-grey hands.
Legs
Asymmetrical Trans-Light Blue and White. The right leg is translucent blue to represent an 'ice limb,' while the left leg is white with sand green armor plates and clawed bird-feet printing at the toes.
Accessories
Trans-Light Blue 'CHI' harness/chest armor with a 1x1 round trans-blue tile. This specific figure in the image is missing its original white vulture wings and bladed weapon accessory.
Color Scheme
A 'frozen' palette consisting of white, trans-light blue, sand green, and dark bluish-grey, with purple accents representing decay.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing. The detail is exceptional, particularly the transition between the organic bird look and the skeletal/ice elements of the Ice Hunter tribe. It includes printing on the toes of the legs.
Variants
There are no known production variants of Voom Voom, though he bears a strong resemblance to Vultrix (loc111) who has different leg printing and chest armor.
Condition Notes
Common wear points include the 'clutch power' of the trans-blue leg, which can develop hairline fractures. The white plastic is prone to yellowing if exposed to UV light. The printed beak on the face is a high-friction point and often shows paint loss.
Estimated Value
Used: $4.00 - $6.00 USD. New: $8.00 - $12.00 USD. The value is slightly lower for this specific specimen because it is missing the wings and weapon.
Price (New)
Originally available in set 70220 ($19.99) and 70228 ($79.99). As a standard retail figure, it did not have a standalone price.
Compatible Sets
70220 Vulture's Ice Striker (2015), 70228 Vultrix's Sky Scavenger (2015).
Character Background
Voom Voom is a member of the Vulture Tribe, one of the Ice Hunter tribes awakened from a frozen sleep to conquer Chima. Unlike the noble Eagles or cunning Ravens, Vultures are scavengers associated with decay and ice.
Design Notes
The use of the translucent leg was a pioneer technique for the Chima theme to represent the 'frozen' nature of the antagonists. The mold for the head is unique to bird tribes but uses a distinct print for the Vulture sub-group.
Similar Minifigures
Vultrix (loc111), Vardy (loc090), and Maula (loc088) are related Ice Hunter leaders/warriors with similar color schemes.
Collectibility
Moderate. Legends of Chima has a dedicated cult following. While not as liquid as Star Wars figures, the Ice Hunter wave is highly sought after for its unique translucent parts and detailed prints.
History
The Vulture tribe represented the final evolution of bird-man designs in LEGO, transitioning from the simple prints of the 2013 Eagles to the highly complex, asymmetrical designs of the 2015 Ice Hunters.
Interesting Facts
Voom Voom is often confused with Vultrix; the primary way to tell them apart is that Vultrix typically wears the 'Fire CHI' orange/trans-red armor or has different leg markings.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed on a transparent blue baseplate or alongside other Ice Hunters like Sir Fangar. Use cool-white LED lighting to make the translucent leg 'glow'.
Modification Potential
The head and translucent legs are popular for MOC (My Own Creation) builders making post-apocalyptic mutants or cybernetic fantasy creatures.
Overall Assessment
This is a solid mid-tier collectible from one of LEGO's most creative original IPs. Even without the wings, the detail in the torso and the unique dual-colored legs make it a standout figure of its era.
