Theme
The Lord of the Rings

2013 (Released as part of the Battle at the Black Gate set)
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While not a limited convention exclusive, it was only available in one set that had a relatively short shelf life before the theme was discontinued.
Head
The head (missing in image) is a light flesh tone with two expressions: a cheerful smile and a worried/scared face. It uses the standard Hobbit/Child hair piece in dark tan.
Torso
Dark Blue. Features highly detailed printing of the Tree of Gondor on the front, representing his service as a Guard of the Citadel. Includes a silver belt with a buckle and dark gray arms with light flesh hands.
Legs
Short legs in Dark Stone Grey (Dark Gray) with blue and dark red tunic print extensions on the hips and the front of the legs to simulate the bottom of his surcoat.
Accessories
Typically comes with a small silver sword (stiletto) and a dark green elven cape. The cape was a distinctive cloth piece from the LOTR line.
Color Scheme
Primary Dark Blue and Dark Gray with gold, silver, and dark red accents. The silver 'White Tree' print is the focal point.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the torso front and back, and front of the legs. Includes detailed star patterns around the Tree of Gondor and realistic fabric folds.
Variants
This is the 'Gondor' variant of Pippin. A more common version (lor012) exists wearing a green cloak and brown vest from 'The Fellowship of the Ring'.
Condition Notes
The dark blue torso is prone to showing micro-scratches. Check for cracks in the side of the torso (common in dark-colored plastics) and wear on the silver tree printing.
Estimated Value
Used (Complete): $25-$35 USD. Torso/Legs only (as shown): $15-$20 USD. Mint condition complete sets are rising due to the theme's cult status.
Price (New)
Originally included in set 79007 (Battle at the Black Gate), which retailed for $59.99 USD in 2013.
Compatible Sets
79007: Battle at the Black Gate.
Character Background
Peregrin 'Pippin' Took is a Hobbit of the Shire. In 'The Return of the King', he enters the service of Denethor II, the Steward of Gondor, as a Guard of the Citadel out of debt for Boromir's sacrifice.
Design Notes
The torso print is a perfect 1:1 scale representation of the actual movie costume worn by Billy Boyd. The use of dark gray legs helps ground the bright blue of the Gondorian livery.
Similar Minifigures
lor036 Merry (Gondor Armor), lor012 Pippin (Green Cape), and lor011 Merry (Green Cape). Also compares to sw1159 Echo due to similar blue/gray color blocking.
Collectibility
High. Lord of the Rings collectors are very active, and the 'Army of Gondor' versions of the Hobbits are essential for Black Gate dioramas.
History
Part of the final 'classic' wave of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets. This figure represents LEGO's peak transition into high-detail printing before the theme went on a long hiatus.
Interesting Facts
Despite being a Hobbit (who usually have no shoes), the printing on the legs extends to the bottom, though no feet are printed to maintain the 'skirt' look of the armor tunic.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside Merry in his Rohan armor to showcase the two hobbits in their 'War of the Ring' military gear. Best placed on a white or light gray baseplate to pop the dark blue.
Modification Potential
The torso is popular for MOC creators making custom Citadel Guards or Gondorian nobility due to the highly accurate White Tree of Gondor print.
Overall Assessment
An excellent mid-tier collectible. The torso design is one of the most iconic prints in the LOTR line. Since it was only available in a single set, it remains a strong investment piece.
