Year Released
2012. Released in January as part of the sixth wave of blind-bag collectors' items, during a period when LEGO was expanding the complexity of CMF prints.
Rarity
Uncommon. While part of a mass-market series, it is now discontinued and over a decade old, making it harder to find in pristine condition compared to modern series.
Head
Pearl Gold with brown face printing, gear-themed eyes, and a square robotic jawline. It is capped with a Pearl Gold hair piece (standard 'male' hair mold).
Torso
Pearl Gold with intricate 'exposed machinery' printing. Notable for the prominent white pressure gauge/clock face on the chest and internal cog details. Arms are Pearl Gold with one black hand and one pearl gold hand.
Legs
Pearl Gold with printing that matches the torso's mechanical aesthetic, featuring brown 'grease' or shadow markings and white/beige boot details.
Accessories
Originally accompanied by a Pearl Gold 'Clockwork Key' (part 98375) that attaches to the back via a neck bracket. The figure in the image is currently missing these back accessories.
Color Scheme
Monochromatic Pearl Gold with accents of Dark Brown, White, and Black. The metallic finish gives it a distinct steampunk aesthetic.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the front of the head, torso, and legs. No arm or back printing was common for this era of CMF.
Variants
There are no official production variants, but the key accessory is sometimes found in different colors in other sets (though only Pearl Gold is authentic to this figure).
Condition Notes
Pearl Gold plastic is prone to 'shirring' or visible flow lines from the molding process. Common wear points include silvering on the hair piece and scratches on the chest print. The 'key' accessory is frequently lost.
Estimated Value
Used (Complete): $5-$8 USD. New (Sealed Bag): $12-$18 USD. As shown (incomplete): $3-$5 USD.
Price (New)
$2.99 USD (MSRP per blind bag in 2012).
Compatible Sets
Collectible Minifigures Series 6 (8827).
Character Background
An original LEGO character designed as a wind-up toy. It is portrayed as a friendly, slightly clumsy mechanical man who needs constant winding to keep moving.
Design Notes
Uses a standard Minifigure head and hair in Pearl Gold to simulate a metal casing. The key-hole backpack was a relatively new specialized part usage at the time.
Similar Minifigures
Series 1 Robot (col008), Series 8 Evil Robot (col115), and the Series 11 Welder (col165) for technical/industrial vibes.
Collectibility
High for completionists of the CMF line. It remains a fan favorite for its unique color and 'Steampunk' potential.
History
Followed the success of the Series 1 Robot, showing how LEGO design moved from 'Classic Space' style robots to more thematic, character-driven mechanical figures.
Interesting Facts
This was one of the first figures to use the 'Key' element, which later became a staple in the LEGO Games line and various Disney princess sets.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed with the wind-up key attached. Looks excellent in a laboratory or toy shop MOC, or alongside other CMF series robots.
Modification Potential
Excellent for Steampunk MOCs. The torso/legs are often used by customizers to create golden statues or advanced droids.
Overall Assessment
A charming and essential piece of CMF history. While this specific unit is missing its key and neck bracket, the printing remains a high-quality example of early 2010s LEGO design.
