The Glove World Wave · 2012 (Released in set 3816)

Figure ID
bob020
Theme
SpongeBob SquarePants
Year Released
2012 (Released in set 3816)
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. This specific head print was only included in one set before the theme was retired and the license moved to Mega Bloks.
Head
The 'head' is a unique rectangular 2x1x2 block mold with a stud on top and specific jagged sponge-like edges. This version features a 'scared' or 'worried' expression with wide eyes, downward-curved eyebrows, and a frowning mouth showing teeth.
Torso
The torso is integrated into the unique head/body mold. It features SpongeBob's white collared shirt, red tie, and brown belt printed on a yellow base. Arms are yellow with regular yellow hands.
Legs
Standard short LEGO legs in reddish-brown. They do not have printing (the socks/shoes detail is absent on this specific early/mid-era version).
Accessories
None included in the image. Originally packaged with a carnival ticket 'tile' in its debut set.
Color Scheme
Bright Yellow, Reddish Brown, White, and Red. Features light orange 'sponge spots' around the facial printing.
Printing Details
Pad-printed facial features and clothing details. The printing is limited to the front of the combined head/torso piece. The alignment is centered on the wide-face mold.
Variants
There are many SpongeBob variants including bob001 (Basic smile), bob013 (Sly wink), bob017 (SuperSponge), and bob034 (Large grin with socks). This is specifically the 'Shocked/Scared' version.
Condition Notes
Prone to 'arm cracks' at the pits and side-torso cracks. The large surface area of the yellow head can show scuffs or tooth marks easily. White printing on the shirt may fade if exposed to UV.
Estimated Value
Used: $12 - $18 USD; New/Mint: $25+ USD. Values vary based on the tightness of the arm joints and clarity of the facial print.
Price (New)
Set 3816 'Glove World' retailed for $19.99 USD in 2012. The figure is now worth nearly the original price of the entire set.

Character Background
Based on the iconic Nickelodeon cartoon character. This version represents SpongeBob's frequent anxiety or fear, specifically tied to the Glove World amusement park episode 'Rock Bottom' or 'Roller Coward'.
Design Notes
SpongeBob utilized a specialized non-traditional minifigure mold. This design was controversial among purists at release but is now a nostalgic hallmark of the late 2000s/early 2010s era.
Similar Minifigures
Patrick Star (pat011), Squidward (sqd001), and Sandy Cheeks (sdy001).
Collectibility
High. The LEGO SpongeBob line was discontinued years ago, making these figures highly sought after by Gen Z collectors and theme completionists.
History
LEGO produced SpongeBob sets from 2006 to 2012. This figure represents the final evolution of the character's design under the LEGO brand before the license ended.
Interesting Facts
Because the head and torso are a single molded unit (mostly), it is one of the few figures where the 'neck' does not rotate. The stud on top of the head is functional for hats.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside the Glove World signage or within an underwater-themed MOC. It looks best when paired with the shocked Patrick Star figure to recreate the 'scary ride' scenes.
Modification Potential
Low for the head/torso due to the specialized mold. However, legs can be swapped for printed versions from later sets (like bob034) to 'upgrade' the figure to have socks and shoes.
Overall Assessment
A quintessential piece of licensed LEGO history. This 'Scared' variant is one of the more expressive and desirable versions of the character due to its single-set exclusivity.
