Figure ID
bat002
Theme
DC Super Heroes / Batman
Year Released
2006 (Debuted in set 7783)
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. This is the original light nougat skin-tone version of the blue and grey Batman, which was only released in two of the most popular 2006 sets.
Head
Light Nougat with white headband (to simulate the cowl eyes), black eyebrows, and a slight smirk. Note: Earlier versions from the same year featured yellow skin; this is the updated flesh-tone version.
Torso
Light Bluish Gray with a yellow and black Batman logo, muscular definition printing, blue arms, and blue hands.
Legs
Plain Blue legs (typically standard length), unprinted hip piece.
Accessories
Blue rubber-style cowl with pointed ears, blue scalloped-edge cloth cape (bat-wing style), and originally came with Batarangs (not pictured).
Color Scheme
A classic blue and light bluish-gray palette reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s comic book appearances of the Dark Knight.
Printing Details
Pad-printed torso with sharp contrast on the yellow oval logo. Head contains a solid white band across the top to align with the cowl eye-holes.
Variants
bat001 (Yellow head), bat001a (Yellow head with different cape), and various modern versions with more detailed leg printing or different shades of blue.
Condition Notes
The cape is susceptible to fraying at the edges. The blue cowl often shows scratches or 'bite marks' on the ears. Light nougat heads are less prone to fading than yellow ones but can rub off over time.
Estimated Value
Used Complete: $35.00 - $55.00 USD | New/Mint: $65.00+ USD. Note: Values fluctuate based on the condition of the cape and cowl ears.
Price (New)
Included in sets ranging from $49.99 (7783) to $99.99 (7783 The Batcave) in 2006.
Compatible Sets
7783 The Batcave: The Penguin and Mr. Freeze's Invasion (2006), 7785 Arkham Asylum (2006).
Character Background
Bruce Wayne has worn many suits, but this blue and grey outfit pays homage to the Bronze Age of DC Comics, notably the work of Neal Adams and the 1966 television series aesthetics.
Design Notes
This represents the transition era where LEGO moved from classic yellow skin to realistic skin tones for licensed characters. It uses the first-generation Batman cowl mold.
Similar Minifigures
bat001 Batman (Yellow head), sh025 Batman (2012 blue version), cat001 Catwoman (Original 2006).
Collectibility
High. The 2006 Batman line is highly nostalgic for collectors and is considered the 'Golden Age' of LEGO Super Heroes by many.
History
At the time of this release, LEGO Batman was a brand-new internal theme not tied to a specific movie, allowing for comic-accurate designs before the 'Dark Knight' movie trilogy took over.
Interesting Facts
The blue version of the classic Batman was harder to find than the black version (bat004) during the 2006-2008 run because it was only in the largest sets.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside the original 2006 Robin and Catwoman for a complete 'Vintage DC' look. Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent the light gray torso from yellowing.
Modification Potential
Excellent for purist customs; the blue cowl and cape are often used to create 'Silver Age' versions of DC characters or custom blue-themed knights.
Overall Assessment
An iconic piece of LEGO history. While it lacks the modern leg printing of today's figures, its simplicity and 'classic' feel make it a centerpiece for any DC collector. Rating: 9/10.
