Year Released

2011. Debuted in the LEGO Kingdoms wave during a transition period where LEGO was moving from fantasy-era monsters back to realistic Knights, only to introduce this 'Kraken' faction in a single large set.

Rarity

Rare. This minifigure was exclusive to a single, high-priced set (7189 Mill Village Raid), which had a relatively short production run and is now highly sought after by collectors.

Head

Yellow head with standard male expression (cocked eyebrow and smirk). It is partially obscured by a Dark Green ninja-style face mask/wrap and a Reddish Brown Barbuta-style helmet.

Torso

Dark Green torso with Dark Azure and Reddish Brown tunic printing. Features a prominent lime-green 'Kraken' (Squid) emblem on the chest. Back is printed with continued tunic lines and belt detail. Dark Green arms with Reddish Brown hands.

Legs

Reddish Brown hips and legs. The front of the legs features printing that continues the Dark Azure tunic design with tattered edges and small 'Kraken' knee-armor details.

Accessories

Includes a Pearl Dark Gray cutlass/saber and a round shield. The shield is Dark Azure/Dark Green with a printed Kraken/Squid logo matching the torso. It also utilizes a Dark Green neck-wrap piece.

Color Scheme

A unique Earth-tone palette consisting of Dark Green, Dark Azure, and Reddish Brown, accented by lime-green for the faction sigil.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on torso (front and back) and leg fronts. The alignment is precise, allowing the tunic pattern to flow seamlessly from the torso to the hips and legs.

Variants

There are no official LEGO variants of this specific Kraken soldier, though the faction includes a 'Kraken Chief' (cas438) with a different torso and a cape.

Condition Notes

Watch for frayed edges on the torso printing at the hip joint. The Dark Green plastic is sturdy, but the helmet can develop 'stress marks' inside the clip if forced onto the head too often.

Estimated Value

Used: $30 - $45 USD; New (taken from sealed set): $55 - $70 USD. The value is driven by the popularity of set 7189.

Price (New)

N/A (Individual). The set it came in, 7189 Mill Village Raid, originally retailed for $69.99 USD in 2011.

Compatible Sets

7189 Mill Village Raid (Kingdoms, 2011).

Character Background

These soldiers represented a villainous raiding faction in the Kingdoms lore. While never appearing in a movie, they are fan-favorites because they look like 'Cthulhu cultists' or fantasy pirates.

Design Notes

The use of Dark Azure against Reddish Brown was revolutionary for the Castle theme at the time. It utilized the Ninjago-style mask in a medieval context very effectively.

Similar Minifigures

Kingdoms Dragon Knight, Kingdoms Lion Knight, and the Kraken Chief (cas438). It also shares aesthetic DNA with the Ninjago Serpentine.

Collectibility

High. Because they only appeared in one set, army-building these soldiers is extremely expensive, making them a 'grail' for Castle army builders.

History

Followed the 2007-2009 'Fantasy Era' skeletons and trolls. The Kraken faction was a brief, mysterious addition to the more grounded 'Kingdoms' line before it was discontinued.

Interesting Facts

Despite the 'Kraken' name and logo, these soldiers were attacking a farm (Mill Village), leading fans to joke they were lost or very far from the ocean.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed in a raiding party formation. They look excellent on tan or dark tan baseplates to simulate the village raid environment.

Modification Potential

Excellent for Cthulhu-inspired MOCs or fantasy 'Deep One' cultists. The torso is frequently used by customizers for high-fantasy rogue characters.

Overall Assessment

A standout 9/10 minifigure. It offers a unique color palette and a rare faction logo that has never been revisited by LEGO, making it a premium piece for any collection.
