Bionicle Toa Hordika / Visorak Torso Armor

Figure ID

50917

Theme

Bionicle

Year Released

2005 - Featured in the Toa Hordika and Visorak waves

Rarity

Common to Uncommon. While mass-produced in 2005, finding pieces in pristine condition with clear printing is becoming harder for collectors.

Head

Not applicable; this is a Bionicle torso component. The corresponding Toa Hordika figures used a unique molded head (50901) with a dual-molded mask/head piece.

Torso

Large molded Bionicle torso shell in Flat Silver (Pearl Light Gray). Features mechanical 'abs' sculpting and two gold/black gear-patterned prints on the pectoral sections. Includes connection points for Technic pins and axles.

Legs

Not applicable; this component attached to a Technic-based internal skeletal structure which then connected to Bionicle limb elements.

Accessories

Usually paired with Hordika bladed weapons (e.g., Flame Claws, Ice Slicers) and Rhotuka spinner launchers.

Color Scheme

Flat Silver base with Gold and Black pad-printed gear graphics. Darker metallic tones were synonymous with the 'mutated' aesthetic of the 2005 Bionicle storyline.

Printing Details

Pad-printed on the two upper chest panels. The design features a interlocking gear motif in gold with black outlines, intended to represent the clockwork-like machinery of the Great Spirit.

Variants

This specific printed variant is unique to the Pearl Light Gray mold, though the unprinted mold (Part 47306) appeared in multiple colors across the Bionicle and Knights Kingdom lines.

Condition Notes

Prone to 'scuffing' on the silver plastic. The printing can wear off if the piece was played with heavily in a tub of other parts. Check for stress marks around the Technic pin holes at the bottom.

Estimated Value

Individual torso shell: $1.00 - $3.00 USD (Used). Complete Toa Hordika figures typically range from $15.00 to $25.00 USD.

Price (New)

Original 2005 sets (Toa Hordika 8736-8741) retailed for approximately $8.99 USD.

Compatible Sets

Appears in Sets 8736 Toa Hordika Vakama, 8737 Nokama, 8738 Matau, 8739 Onewa, 8740 Whenua, and 8741 Nuju.

Character Background

Represents the mutated forms of the Toa Metru after they were infected by Visorak venom. The Toa Hordika struggled with their bestial nature in the city of Metru Nui.

Design Notes

A departure from the Toa Metru armor (2004), this piece used more Technic-integrated geometry to allow for the Rhotuka spinner mechanism in the back.

Similar Minifigures

Toa Metru (2004 versions), Visorak (8742-8747), and Knights Kingdom II armored figures which used similar torso molds.

Collectibility

Moderate. Collectors often seek these to complete 'Year 5' Bionicle collections. The gold gear printing is a signature look of the mid-2000s Bionicle era.

History

2005 was a transition year for Bionicle, introducing more 'organic-mechanical' hybrid designs and the first major pivot away from traditional masks.

Interesting Facts

The 'gears' printed on the chest are purely decorative; they do not line up with the actual internal gear functions of the Toa Hordika action figures.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed as part of a complete Toa Hordika figure on a Technic stand or within a Metru Nui city diorama.

Modification Potential

Extremely high for Bionicle MOCs (My Own Creations). This piece is often used as shoulder armor or thigh plating on larger Titan-class custom builds.

Overall Assessment

A quintessential Bionicle component that defines the 'Hordika' era. While not a traditional minifigure, it is a vital artifact for Bionicle enthusiasts and a great example of mid-2000s large-scale molding.
