Harry Potter - Black Suit, Bow Tie

Figure ID

hp065

Theme

Harry Potter

Year Released

2005

Rarity

Uncommon. Exclusive to the 2005 Yule Ball themed set. While not inherently rare in terms of production volume, finding one in mint condition is becoming harder due to the age of the set.

Head

Light Flesh, black round glasses, small smiling mouth, dual-sided (scared expression on reverse). Note: The 2005 version used a unique hairpiece mold specific to the Goblet of Fire era films.

Torso

Black torso with tuxedo/suit printing: light blue vest, white shirt, and black bow tie. The printing includes lapel lines and vest buttons.

Legs

Plain black legs (no printing). Standard hip connection.

Accessories

Usually included a reddish-brown wand (4L bar style) in its original set. In the provided image, the wand is missing.

Color Scheme

A monochromatic base (Black) with accents of Light Flesh (skin) and Sand Blue/Light Blue (vest printing).

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing for the era. Features torso printing on the front only. The head features dual-face printing which was becoming more standard for licensed characters in the mid-2000s.

Variants

There are numerous Harry Potter variants. This specific 'Yule Ball' version was updated in 2019 (hp186) with much more detailed leg printing and a different hair mold. This 2005 version is the 'Classic' movie style version.

Condition Notes

The black plastic shows scratches and scuffs easily (visible in the image). The hairpiece is prone to lose its 'clutch' over decades of play. Check for cracks in the torso sides and neck.

Estimated Value

$8.00 - $15.00 USD (Used); $25.00+ USD (New/Mint). The lack of accessories reduces the value slightly.

Price (New)

Originally released in set 4767 which retailed for $29.99 USD in 2005.

Compatible Sets

4767 Harry and the Hungarian Horntail (2005).

Character Background

Represents Harry Potter as he appeared during the Yule Ball in the fourth film, 'The Goblet of Fire', wearing dress robes (represented here as a formal tuxedo).

Design Notes

This figure captures the transition period of LEGO Harry Potter where figures moved from yellow skin tones (2001-2004) to realistic flesh tones (2005-present).

Similar Minifigures

Cedric Diggory (hp062), Viktor Krum (hp064), and modern Yule Ball Harry (hp186).

Collectibility

High for 'completionist' Potter collectors. It is a milestone piece representing the shift to realistic skin tones and the niche Goblet of Fire sub-theme.

History

First released in 2005 during the peak of the original film franchise. It was discontinued when the original Potter line ended in 2011, before the theme's revival in 2018.

Interesting Facts

Despite being from the Yule Ball scene, this figure actually came in a set depicting the first task (the Dragon fight), likely to maximize the figure count for that wave.

Display Suggestions

Display alongside other 2005-era Potter figures like the original Dumbledore or the 2005 Voldemort to maintain aesthetic consistency.

Modification Potential

The torso is an excellent formal wear piece for any 'flesh-toned' city MOC or wedding scene.

Overall Assessment

A nostalgic and solid 19-year-old minifigure. While surpassed in detail by modern equivalents, it remains a charming piece of LEGO history and a must-have for classic Potter fans.
