sw0002
Theme
Star Wars
Year Released
2000 (Set 7144: Slave I)
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While mass-produced in the early 2000s, finding this figure in high-quality condition with un-cracked parts is becoming difficult.
Head
Standard yellow LEGO head with a black solid-stud or hollow-stud top. It features the classic simple face: two black dots for eyes and a curved smile.
Torso
Brown torso with front printing depicting Boba Fett's armor. It features a sand green chest plate with a yellow Mandalorian emblem on the right chest and a utility belt at the bottom. Arms are brown with grey hands.
Legs
Brown hips with dark grey legs. This version does not feature leg printing, adhering to the classic era design aesthetic.
Accessories
Includes the iconic sand green Mandalorian helmet with a T-shaped visor print and a brown jetpack that attaches via a neck bracket. Note: The blaster (short black pistol or customized rifle) is missing from the image.
Color Scheme
Primary colors are Brown, Sand Green, and Dark Grey. This is often referred to by collectors as the 'classic' color scheme, predating the more movie-accurate Bluish Grey era.
Printing Details
Simple pad printing on the torso and helmet. The printing is less detailed than modern 'UCS' versions but holds a high nostalgia value. Alignment is generally centered but can vary slightly between production runs.
Variants
Known variants include the rare sw0107 version with arm printing from Cloud City (10123), and later versions with more detailed flesh-toned heads and updated armor colors (sw0396, sw0610).
Condition Notes
Key areas of concern include stress marks/cracks on the brown torso sides and heels, and paint wear on the helmet's T-visor. The brown plastic of this era can become brittle over time.
Estimated Value
Used Complete: $30.00 - $50.00. New/Excellent Condition: $60.00+. Incomplete (as shown): $20.00 - $25.00 depending on torso condition.
Price (New)
Originally released in set 7144 Slave I, which retailed for approximately $20.00 USD in 2000.
Compatible Sets
7144 (Slave I), 3341 (Star Wars #2 - Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Boba Fett), and 4476 (Jabba's Prize).
Character Background
Boba Fett is the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter. He first appeared in the Star Wars Holiday Special and later in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Design Notes
This represents the first-ever LEGO Boba Fett. The helmet mold is iconic as it set the standard for Mandalorian figures for over a decade. It uses a neck-bracket jetpack which was revolutionary at the time.
Similar Minifigures
Cloud City Boba Fett (sw0107 - extremely rare), Jango Fett (sw0053), and modern Boba Fett variants like sw1158.
Collectibility
High. As the first version of a fan-favorite character, it is a staple of any Star Wars LEGO collection and usually sees consistent value appreciation.
History
Debuted in 2000 as part of the second wave of Star Wars sets. It marked the transition of LEGO into licensed character-specific molds for helmets.
Interesting Facts
The brown color used for his torso is the original 'Old Brown' color, which LEGO retired in 2004 and replaced with 'Reddish Brown'.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside the classic 7144 Slave I or in a 'History of Boba Fett' frame with other versions to show the evolution of printing technology.
Modification Potential
Highly suitable for 'classic-style' MOCs. Many purists use these parts to create custom versions of other Mandalorian characters in the 2000s style.
Overall Assessment
A legendary minifigure. While the image shows some potential wear and missing weapons, the core helmet and torso represent a piece of LEGO history. Rating: A- Tier for nostalgic value.
