Laval the Lion (mismatched/custom assembly)

Figure ID

LOC001 (head only) / CTY0716 (torso/legs)

Theme

LEGO Legends of Chima (Head) / LEGO City (Body)

Year Released

Head released 2013-2015; Body released 2016-2020

Rarity

Common (as assembled). The individual components were mass-produced in widely available sets and promotional items.

Head

The head is a unique Chima lion mold (Part 11210pb01). It features tan skin, white chin, orange eyes, and an integrated dark red mane with a printed gold crown ornament. This specific expression (determined smirk) is characteristic of Laval, the protagonist of the Chima series.

Torso

The torso (Part 973pb2486c01) belongs to a LEGO City Firefighter. It is bright yellow with a lime-green/silver reflective stripe, a printed radio pocket, and a dark brown utility belt with a silver buckle. The hands are light bluish gray.

Legs

The legs (Part 970c00pb0548) match the torso: bright yellow with dark tan knee pads/pockets and the continuation of the reflective safety stripe and belt printing from the torso.

Accessories

None shown. Chima heads are usually paired with shoulder armor (Part 11097) and a transparent blue 'Chi' orb, while the firefighter body usually includes a helmet, air tanks, or a fire axe.

Color Scheme

The primary color is bright yellow (body), contrasted with the dark red and tan of the lion head. Metallic gold accents appear on the crown, while silver/lime reflect the safety gear of the uniform.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing. The head features complex multi-sided printing on a specialized animal mold. The torso and legs have high-visibility safety markings typical of mid-2010s City sets.

Variants

The head exists in several versions including 'Fire CHI' (orange mane) and Cape-wearing versions. The firefighter body is one of the most common designs in the City Fire sub-theme.

Condition Notes

Common wear points include chipping on the lion's mane tips and scratches on the yellow torso printing. The neck joint may show stress if the large Chima head was frequentlly removed.

Estimated Value

$3.00 - $6.00 USD. As a 'mismatched' or 'MOC' figure, its value is the sum of its parts. The Laval head is worth approx. $1.50-$2.00; the firefighter body is worth approx. $1.50-$2.50.

Price (New)

N/A for this assembly. The Laval figure originally came in sets ranging from $10 to $120; Firefighter bodies appeared in $5 polybags and $100 Fire Stations.

Compatible Sets

Head: 70010 The Lion CHI Temple, 70000 Razcal's Glider. Body: 60107 Fire Ladder Truck, 60110 Fire Station, 60214 Burger Bar Fire Rescue.

Character Background

Laval is the prince of the Lion Tribe in the land of Chima, known for his bravery and his rivalry with Cragger the Crocodile. He has been placed here on a modern firefighter's body, creating a 'civilian' or 'modern AU' version of the character.

Design Notes

The Chima head is a highly detailed dual-molded piece that was a departure from standard minifigure heads, intended to give the animal tribes more personality and screen-accurate detail.

Similar Minifigures

Other Chima Lions like Lavertus, Lagravis, or Li'Ella; other LEGO City Firefighters from the 2016 wave.

Collectibility

Low for the specific assembly shown, as it is not a purist official release. However, Chima heads remain popular for 'furry' or fantasy MOC builders.

History

Legends of Chima was launched in 2013 as a successor to Ninjago (though both eventually ran concurrently). The City Firefighter body represents the 2016-2018 era of City design which moved toward brighter yellow uniforms.

Interesting Facts

The Lions in Chima were the only tribe to have a unique hair/head mold that didn't require a separate helmet piece to look complete.

Display Suggestions

This figure is best suited for a 'Modern Chima' diorama or as a humorous 'Easter Egg' character in a LEGO City layout.

Modification Potential

High. The figure is already a modification. One could add a fire helmet or Chima armor to further hybridize the character.

Overall Assessment

This is a 'franken-figure' combining the head of a Chima hero with a standard City professional body. While not a valuable collector's item in this state, it demonstrates the creative modularity of the LEGO system.
