Sensei Wu - White Kimono

Figure ID

njo012

Theme

Ninjago

Year Released

2011 - First wave of Ninjago

Rarity

Uncommon; it appeared in several early sets, but high-quality versions are becoming scarcer due to the age of the theme.

Head

Yellow head with bushy white eyebrows and a calm, furrowed expression. Features a Tan conical Asian hat (coolie hat) and a unique long white beard piece that fits over the neck peg.

Torso

White torso with a traditional kimono wrap design. Printing includes a black dragon emblem on the left chest and a grey/black tied belt (obi). Back printing includes continuation of the belt.

Legs

Plain white legs with white hips, which match the kimono robe aesthetic.

Accessories

Includes a Tan 6L bar (Staff of Wu) and a white long beard piece. Some sets included a tea cup as a secondary accessory.

Color Scheme

Classic primary White and Yellow with accent colors of Tan (hat/staff) and neutral grey/black (printing).

Printing Details

Pad-printed torso front and back. The lines are sharp but minimalist compared to modern Ninjago figures, reflecting the 2011 design style.

Variants

Numerous versions exist, including Kimono with gold trim (njo026), Wu with cape (njo061), and movie-style versions with different beard molds.

Condition Notes

The white plastic is prone to yellowing if exposed to UV light. The beard piece can show stress marks on the neck ring, and the staff is prone to teeth marks from younger builders.

Estimated Value

Used: $5.00 - $8.00 USD; New/Mint: $12.00 - $15.00 USD. Prices vary based on the stiffness of joints and whiteness of the plastic.

Character Background

Sensei Wu is the wise master of the Main Ninjago team and younger son of the First Spinjitzu Master. This specific look represents his appearance in the original pilot episodes and Season 1.

Design Notes

The beard piece was a revolutionary mold for Ninjago and remains one of the most iconic parts in the theme. This figure established the 'Old Master' archetype in modern LEGO.

Similar Minifigures

Master Wu (Movie version), Sensei Garmadon, and the 'Legacy' series remakes of the Pilot Wu figure.

Collectibility

High for Ninjago completionists as this is the 'Original' version of the theme's core mentor character.

History

Launched in 2011, this figure helped propel Ninjago from a planned 3-year theme into a permanent LEGO flagship line.

Interesting Facts

The hat piece (Tan Conical) was actually a reuse of a piece originally created for the LEGO Ninja theme in 1998.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed alongside the original four Ninja (Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane) in their 2011 DX or Micro-print suits inside a clear shadow box.

Modification Potential

The head and beard are popular for custom 'Old Man' or 'Wizard' figures in the MOC community.

Overall Assessment

An essential piece of Ninjago history. While common at the time, its status as the 'OG Wu' makes it a nostalgia-rich staple for any LEGO collector.
