Lando Calrissian - Cloud City (Smooth Hair)

Figure ID

sw0105

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2003 (Released in October in Set 10123: Cloud City)

Rarity

Ultra-Rare. This is one of the most iconic and valuable LEGO Star Wars minifigures ever produced. It was exclusive to a single, expensive, and limited-run set (10123 Cloud City) from over 20 years ago.

Head

Brown head with a classic LEGO mustache and smile. Features the older 'flesh' skin tone style used in the first wave of licensed figures. The hair is the 'smooth' brown hairpiece common to the era but highly sought after in this specific color/character combination.

Torso

Medium Blue torso with black 'V' neck printing, belt details, and crease lines to mimic a tunic. It has reddish-brown hands and medium blue arms. The back of the torso is unprinted, which is standard for figures of this era.

Legs

Black unprinted legs with a black hip piece. While simple, these are original to the 2003 configuration.

Accessories

Light Blue/Light Gray two-toned cloth cape. The cape is yellow on the inside (collar area) and blue/gray on the outside. This specific cape material and color scheme is exclusive to this figure and is the most common part to be missing or damaged.

Color Scheme

A distinct combination of Medium Blue, Black, and Brown. The cape features a unique Light Blue/Yellow dual-color fabric palette that mirror Lando's outfit in the film.

Printing Details

Pad printing on the head and torso front. The print detail is sharp but simple compared to modern standards. There is no arm or leg printing, which was characteristic of 2003 LEGO designs.

Variants

This is the 'Smooth Hair' version. There are no official 2003 variants, but this character was completely redesigned in 2017/2018 with much more detailed printing. Collectors distinguish this 2003 version (sw0105) by the classic face and unique cape.

Condition Notes

The light blue cape is highly susceptible to fraying and creasing. The brown head printing can wear off with heavy play. Check for 'neck cracks' on the torso and stress marks on the heels.

Estimated Value

The current market value for a used complete sw0105 ranges from $500 to $900 USD depending on cape condition. A mint/new version can exceed $1,200 USD. The cape alone is worth roughly $200-$300.

Price (New)

Set 10123: Cloud City originally retailed for $99.99 USD in 2003. This was considered expensive at the time but is now seen as a massive investment success.

Compatible Sets

Character Background

Lando Calrissian is the Baron Administrator of Cloud City and a long-time friend of Han Solo. He famously betrays and then rescues Han during the events of 'The Empire Strikes Back'.

Design Notes

This figure represents the transition period where LEGO moved from classic yellow heads to 'flesh' tones for licensed characters. It is the first-ever LEGO Lando Calrissian.

Similar Minifigures

Cloud City Boba Fett (sw0107) and Cloud City Luke Skywalker (sw0103) from the same set; these three form the 'Holy Grail' trio of early Star Wars collecting.

Collectibility

Extremely high. It is a 'grail' figure for Star Wars enthusiasts. Demand has remained consistently high while supply is limited due to the age and rarity of the source set.

History

Launched as part of the first master-builder scale Star Wars set. It remained the only Lando figure for many years until the character's return to the line in much later sets.

Interesting Facts

The cape used for this figure is unique; no other LEGO minifigure in history uses this exact two-toned yellow and blue fabric configuration, making it nearly impossible to replicate with genuine parts from other sets.

Display Suggestions

Should be kept in a UV-protected acrylic case to prevent the cape from fading and the plastic from yellowing. Ideally displayed alongside the 2003 Boba Fett.

Modification Potential

Low for collectors; any modification or part swapping (especially replacing the cape with a third-party one) significantly devalues the item. Purists should ensure the cape is the original felt-like material.

Overall Assessment

9.5/10 for desirability. This is a crown jewel of any LEGO collection. Its value is driven by nostalgia, the legendary status of set 10123, and the unique fabric accessory.
