Marvel Super Heroes
Year Released
2017: Released alongside the Marvel Studios film 'Thor: Ragnarok'. This figure represents Thor's gladiator aesthetic on Sakaar.
Rarity
Uncommon: This specific variant was exclusive to a single set (76088). While not a limited convention exclusive, it is the only version of Thor to feature this specific pearl gold helmet and gladiator torso/leg print combo.
Head
Double-sided light flesh head. Side one: Determined expression with brown eyebrows and a reddish-brown beard. Side two: Angry/shouting expression. Features standard yellow-free flesh tones of modern licensed figures.
Torso
Light bluish gray torso with pearl dark gray and black printing. Design features a quilted armor pattern with a wrap-around tunic style, a brown belt with a gold buckle, and back printing showing continued armor plating. Arms are plain light bluish gray with white hands.
Legs
Light bluish gray legs and hips. The hips and upper legs feature pearl dark gray printing of a continuation of the quilted tunic/skirt. The lower legs features black lines representing the tops of boots.
Accessories
Includes a Pearl Gold Gladiator Helmet (exclusive mold to this wave) and should be equipped with two light bluish gray swords or 'maces' (as shown in image), and often a blue lightning effect piece.
Color Scheme
A muted palette of light bluish gray and pearl dark gray, intended to represent worn leather and metal gladiator attire, topped with a bright pearl gold helmet for royal contrast.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing with fine lines on the armor quilting. The printing extends from the torso onto the hip and thigh area to create a seamless tunic look, which was a high point for 2017 LEGO design.
Variants
Distinct from sh407 (found in 76084) which has no helmet and a different torso/cape combo. Also differs from later 'Infinity War' (sh508) or 'Endgame' versions which move away from the Sakaar gladiator look.
Condition Notes
The pearl gold helmet is prone to surface scratches. The light bluish gray plastic can show bite marks or 'silvering' on edges if played with heavily. Check for torso cracks on the sides.
Estimated Value
Used Complete: $8 - $15 USD; New: $20+; Current value is stable but may rise as Ragnarok-era sets become retired for longer periods.
Price (New)
Included in Set 76088 'Thor vs. Hulk: Arena Clash' which retailed for $59.99 USD.
Compatible Sets
Set 76088: Thor vs. Hulk: Arena Clash (2017).
Character Background
Based on Thor's appearance in Marvel's 'Thor: Ragnarok', specifically when he is forced to fight in the Grandmaster's arena on Sakaar after losing Mjolnir and having his hair cut.
Design Notes
The helmet mold is a standout piece, accurately capturing the Jack Kirby-inspired aesthetic used in the film. The lack of a cape is screen-accurate for his gladiator combat scenes.
Similar Minifigures
Thor (sh407), Grandmaster (sh408), Hulk (sh410), Loki (sh411), and Gladiator Thor variants from specialized CMF or future accessory packs.
Collectibility
Moderate to High. For Marvel Completionists, this is the essential 'Gladiator' version of the character. It represents a fan-favorite movie and a unique visual departure for the character.
History
Part of the first wave of sets to introduce flesh-toned Thor figures with short hair, marking a major shift in the character's LEGO design history following the 'classic' long-haired look (2012-2016).
Interesting Facts
The helmet piece was a brand-new mold for this set. This version of Thor is the only one in several years that does NOT include a hammer or axe, instead utilizing dual swords.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed in an arena MOC or alongside the 'Arena Clash' Hulk. Use a blue 'power burst' piece to simulate his lightning powers for a more dynamic look.
Modification Potential
The helmet and torso are excellent for custom Roman or Greek myth MOCs due to the ancient gladiator aesthetic of the printing.
Overall Assessment
A top-tier licensed figure from the late 2010s. The print continuity between torso and legs is excellent, and the unique helmet mold makes it a standout in any Marvel collection.
