Theme
Ninjago
Year Released
2019 (January). This figure debuted in the first wave of Ninjago 'Legacy' sets which reimagined classic characters from the early seasons of the TV show with modern printing techniques.
Rarity
Uncommon. While not restricted to a single set, it was exclusive to mid-range sets within the Legacy wave that are now retired, making it harder to find in mint condition.
Head
Yellow head with detailed printing. Features a sinister expression with red eyes, fangs, and intricate purple and black 'energy' patterns or tribal tattoos covering the forehead and cheeks.
Torso
Dark Stone Grey (Dark Bluish Gray) torso representing heavy armor. Features silver/light grey plating with a purple sash (belt) at the waist including a metallic silver buckle detail. The printing extends to the back but the arms are plain 'Pearl Dark Grey'.
Legs
Black hips and legs. Features Dark Stone Grey armor plating prints on the upper thighs to match the torso's aesthetic. Small purple accents correlate with the sash.
Accessories
The figure in the image is missing its original accessories. Officially, it originally came with a black 'Ghost' armor piece (neck bracket with shoulder pads) and a weapon (often a bladed staff or sword).
Color Scheme
A dark, menacing palette of Black, Dark Bluish Gray, and Pearl Dark Grey, accented by vibrant Purple and a classic Yellow head.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the head, torso (front and back), and the front of the legs. The head printing is particularly complex with two shades of purple and red highlights.
Variants
This is the 'Legacy' version. It differs from the original 2013 'Golden Ninja' era version (njo082) which had a trans-bright green head and different chest armor patterns.
Condition Notes
The figure in the photo shows significant play wear. There is noticeable print fading on the purple sash of the torso. Common issues for this figure include 'cracking' of the torso sides and loose arm joints from play.

Price (New)
Originally included in sets ranging from $19.99 (70666) to $49.99 (70669).
Compatible Sets
70666 The Golden Dragon (2019) and 70669 Cole's Earth Driller (2019).
Character Background
The Overlord is the ultimate manifestation of darkness and the primary antagonist of Ninjago. This 'humanoid' form represents his appearance during the 'Rebooted' and 'Final Battle' story arcs where he sought to steal Lloyd's Golden Power.
Design Notes
The transition from the translucent heads of the 2013 era to the opaque yellow head of 2019 allowed for much sharper, more complex facial printing, though lost some of the 'spectral' feel of the original.
Similar Minifigures
Overlord (njo082), The Crystal King (njo759), Kozu (njo073), and Garmadon (Legacy versions).
Collectibility
Moderate. It is a core villain for any Ninjago enthusiast. While common during its release, its value remains stable because the 'Legacy' line is highly regarded for its improved aesthetics.
History
First appearing as a non-minifigure orb/dragon, the Overlord eventually took minifigure form in 2013. This 2019 version successfully updated the character for the 10th anniversary era of the theme.
Interesting Facts
The armor pattern on the torso is designed to look like a simplified version of the 'Stone Army' armor, symbolizing the Overlord's command over that indestructible legion.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside 'Golden Ninja Lloyd' on a battle-themed baseplate. Due to the dark colors, top-down lighting helps the silver printing pop.
Modification Potential
Excellent for custom 'Sith' or 'Dark Mage' figures. The torso and head are popular for MOC (My Own Creation) fantasy villains due to the neutral but aggressive armor style.
Overall Assessment
A solid, well-detailed representation of Ninjago's greatest evil. Despite the wear on this specific specimen, the design remains one of the best iterations of the character for collectors.
