Year Released
Released in 2014. It debuted during the third season of the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu television series, which moved the theme from a traditional fantasy setting into a high-tech, futuristic 'cyber' era.
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While not a limited-edition promotional figure, Mindroid appeared in only two sets toward the end of the Rebooted wave. Because he is a unique character with a short-leg mold, he is more sought after than standard Nindroid warriors.
Head
The head is black with a distinctive Nindroid mechanical face print. It features a single large robotic red eye on the right side and purple circuitry/sensor detailing on the left. The printing includes a silver metallic lower jaw/mouth area.
Torso
The torso is black with sophisticated printing of robotic circuitry and a purple sash running diagonally. It features a silver/grey mechanical chest plate with a red circular 'power core' in the center. The right arm is black, while the left arm is flat silver to represent a fully robotic limb. The left hand is purple, matching the sash accent.
Legs
Mindroid utilizes black short legs (non-posant), which is his signature character trait. The legs feature high-detail printing including silver mechanical plating, red highlights, and belt detailing that continues from the torso.
Accessories
In official sets, Mindroid was typically equipped with a silver katana or a black laser drill/spear. The specific unit in the image is missing its headgear, which is a black 'Nindroid' mask/cowl that covers the top of the head.
Color Scheme
A dark, technological palette consisting of Black, Flat Silver, Dark Purple, and Bright Red. The contrast between the black base and the metallic silver accents emphasizes the 'infected' digital nature of the villain faction.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing with sharp alignment. The torso features intricate mechanical detailing and one of the first uses of asymmetric arm coloring in the Ninjago line. The leg printing is particularly dense for a 'short leg' piece.
Variants
There is only one official version of Mindroid (njo093). However, he is often confused with standard Nindroids (njo083) who have full-sized legs and different torso prints. The specific figure in the image is a partial variant/incomplete as it lacks the mask.
Condition Notes
Common wear includes 'silvery' rubbing on the printed chest plate and scratches on the black plastic of the head. Since this figure has short legs, the hip joints do not move, reducing friction wear, but the arm sockets should be checked for cracks.
Estimated Value
The complete figure in good condition is valued between $10.00 – $15.00 USD. Used/Incomplete (missing the mask like the one pictured) is typically valued at $5.00 – $7.00 USD.
Price (New)
Mindroid appeared in sets 70724 (NinjaCopter, $59.99) and 70727 (X-1 Ninja Charger, $39.99). He was never sold as a standalone polybag or CMF.
Compatible Sets
70724 NinjaCopter (2014), 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger (2014).
Character Background
Mindroid is the smallest member of the Nindroid Army. Despite his diminutive size compared to General Cryptor, he is portrayed as aggressive and having a 'short fuse' personality. He was created by the Overlord to serve as a high-speed scout and combatant.
Design Notes
Mindroid was a design milestone for Ninjago as it was the first time they utilized child-sized legs to create a unique 'short' villain character rather than just a child, adding variety to the antagonist's silhouette.
Similar Minifigures
General Cryptor (njo082), Nindroid (njo083), and the Stone Armor variants of the Nindroids.
Collectibility
High for Ninjago fans. The 'Rebooted' era is a favorite among collectors, and Mindroid’s unique character design makes him a 'character-specific' fetch rather than a generic army-builder.
History
Following the 2014 sets, the Nindroid design was largely retired until the 'Legacy' series, but Mindroid has not seen a specific Legacy remake to date, keeping the 2014 version unique.
Interesting Facts
His name is a pun on 'Minifigure' and 'Nindroid.' In the TV show, he is often the subject of physical comedy due to his height, which frustrated the character immensely.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed alongside General Cryptor and a standard Nindroid to show the height variance. He looks excellent on a translucent purple or red baseplate to mimic the Digital Overlord's domain.
Modification Potential
The flat silver arm and purple hand are highly prized for custom 'cyberpunk' or 'sci-fi' MOCs. The printed short legs are also useful for custom goblin or robot-child characters.
Overall Assessment
Mindroid is a standout figure from the 2014 wave. While the figure in the image is missing its mask, the torso and leg condition appear decent. He is a 'Buy' for any Ninjago completionist due to his unique mold and character status.
