Head

Missing in image. Originally features a dark orange skin tone with white Uruk-hai hand-of-Saruman print and snarling expression.

Torso

Black torso with dark brown/dark orange Uruk-hai armor printing featuring gold/copper-toned chains and plate details. Black arms with black hands.

Legs

Black legs and hips with armor printing. Features scale-mail pattern on the upper thighs and pointed knee-plate printing in dark orange/gold tones.

Missing in image. Originally included a long black hair piece with ponytail (unique mold), a scimitar, and a shield with the white hand print.

Color Scheme

A dark palette consisting of Black, Dark Brown, and Bronze/Dark Orange accents for the armor plating and rusted chains.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on torso (front and back) and front of legs. Note the fine detailing on the chain-link texture and the anatomical look of the Uruk-hai armor.

Variants

There are no known design variants of lor008, though it is often compared to the generic Uruk-hai soldiers (lor007/lor019) which lack the specific Lurtz printing.

Condition Notes

The printing on the torso looks intact. Common issues include torso cracks on the sides and loose arm joints. The neck peg shows some minor color wear.

Estimated Value

The full figure is worth approximately $35-$50. As an incomplete assembly (torso and legs only), the value is roughly $10-$15 USD.

Price (New)

Originally included in set 9476 The Orc Forge which retailed for $39.99 USD in 2012.

Compatible Sets

Character Background

Lurtz was the first of Saruman's Uruk-hai, a specialty breed of orc created at Isengard. He is famous for killing Boromir at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Design Notes

Lurtz features a unique copper-tinted armor print that differs from the gunmetal grey or flat silver used on generic Uruk-hai warriors.

Similar Minifigures

Uruk-hai with Helmet (lor007), Uruk-hai Berserker (lor010), Mordor Orc (lor012).

Collectibility

High. Lord of the Rings minifigures have seen massive price appreciation since the line was discontinued. Lurtz is a key antagonist for movie-faithful collections.

History

Released in the first wave of LEGO LOTR. It represents a brief era where LEGO pushed for highly detailed, movie-accurate licensed figures with unique molds like Lurtz's hair.

Interesting Facts

The Lurtz minifigure character was exclusive to one set, making him harder to find than the army-buildable Orcs that appeared across multiple sets.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed in an Orc Forge scene or a Battle of Amon Hen diorama. Requires the missing hair and head pieces to be truly display-worthy.

Modification Potential

Excellent for custom orc warriors; the armor printing is very versatile for any dark-themed medieval or fantasy MOC.

Overall Assessment

This is a legitimate LEGO lor008 component. While valuable for the specialty torso and legs, it requires the unique head and hair piece to reach its full collector value.
