Figure ID
sh016
Theme
Super Heroes
Year Released
2012, based on the late 2011 product wave release for the 2012 DC Super Heroes line revival.
Rarity
Uncommon. While common in its initial release years between 2012-2014, it has been retired for a decade, increasing its rarity for new collectors.
Head
Light Flesh head with white 'headband' printed across the top (which creates the white eyes when the cowl is on). It features a neutral mouth on one side and a scowling/angry expression on the other.
Torso
Black torso with muscular printing in dark bluish gray. Features the iconic yellow oval Bat-logo and a comprehensive yellow utility belt design. Back printing includes more muscle definition and belt continuation.
Legs
Plain black legs with a black hip piece. No printing is present on the legs or side of the legs.
Accessories
Black soft-fabric cape with scalloped 'bat-wing' edges and a black Bat-cowl (Type 1 mold with short ears). Often originally paired with Batarangs in set releases.
Color Scheme
Primary Black with Light Flesh skin tones and distinct 'Classic' Yellow accents for the logo and utility belt.
Printing Details
Pad-printed. High-quality torso printing with sharp lines for the muscle definition. The head features the standard flesh-tone face used during the early 2010s DC line.
Variants
This is the 'Standard' 2012 Batman. Variants include sh016a (differs by cape material/texture) and sh151 (which features a different head/utility belt for the Juniors line).
Condition Notes
The cape is prone to fraying and creasing. The neck of the torso is a high-stress point that can develop hair-line cracks. Check the 'chin' area of the cowl for bite marks or warping.
Estimated Value
Used: $5.00 - $8.00; New/Mint: $12.00 - $15.00. Value varies based on cape crispness.
Price (New)
Available in sets ranging from the $12.99 Catwoman Cycle Chase to the $100+ Batcave (6860). At the time, it was the 'base' Batman figure.
Compatible Sets
6860 The Batcave, 6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase, 6863 Batwing Battle Over Gotham City, and 6864 Batmobile and the Two-Face Chase.
Character Background
Bruce Wayne's Batman. This specific design is a 'LEGO-ized' version of the classic comic book look, primarily inspired by the 'Modern Age' comics of the 90s and early 2000s.
Design Notes
Representative of the 2012 're-launch' of the Super Heroes theme. It moved away from the 2006-2008 Batman aesthetic to a more detailed, high-contrast printing style.
Similar Minifigures
sh002 Batman (2006 Light Bluish Gray suit), sh132 Batman (Space Suit), and sh329 Batman (The LEGO Batman Movie version).
Collectibility
High for completionists due to its status as the 'standard' Batman of the early 2010s. It is stable in value but not a high-growth investment due to high production numbers.
History
Launched the modern DC Super Heroes line after a 4-year hiatus of DC sets. It served as the primary Batman figure for nearly three years until the New 52-inspired designs took over.
Interesting Facts
The 'headband' on the head is actually copper/white to keep the 'glowing white eyes' look iconic to the comics without having to use a specialized helmet mold.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed with a classic Batmobile (6864 style) or standing atop a gargoyle MOC build to highlight the scalloped cape.
Modification Potential
Excellent for purist customs; the torso is frequently used for custom Nightwing or Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond) figures with some color swaps.
Overall Assessment
An essential 'Anchor' minifigure for any DC collection. While simple compared to today's dual-molded legs, it remains one of the most aesthetically pleasing 'classic' Batmen ever produced.
