Year Released
2019 - Released as part of the second wave of Disney Collectible Minifigures (Series 71024), expanding the roster of iconic villains.
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare - As a retired blind-bag figure with 3 units per box of 60, he is harder to find than common 'filler' figures but widely traded among Disney fans.
Head
Double-sided head with Light Nougat skin. One side features a sinister smile with high-arched black eyebrows and a thin black mustache; the other features an angry/shouting expression. He wears a custom-molded black turban with a red feather and a printed red jewel.
Torso
Dark Red and Black printing depicting his sorcerer robes. Features a high collar design with black shoulder armor/pauldrons that fit over the neck post. Arms are Dark Red with Light Nougat hands.
Legs
Black 2x2x2 slope brick (dress/skirt element) rather than traditional legs, printed with red sash details to represent his flowing robes.
Accessories
Includes a distinctive gold snake-headed staff (cobra staff) and a black fabric cape with a red lining (often missing in used listings).
Color Scheme
Dominant colors are Black and Dark Red with Gold accents. This classic villainous palette is faithful to the 1992 animated film Aladdin.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the torso and the front of the slope brick. The turban features fine gold linework around the red gem and a feather mold painted in solid red.
Variants
None of this specific mold. However, a 'Red Genie' Jafar variant exists in the Disney Castle (set 71040). This version (dis013) is the human sorcerer form.
Condition Notes
The fabric cape is susceptible to fraying at the edges. The black slope brick can show scratches easily. Check for 'neck cracks' on the torso caused by the shoulder armor pressure.
Estimated Value
Used (Complete): $10-$15 USD; New/Sealed in bag: $20-$28 USD. Prices have appreciated since the series retired in 2020.
Price (New)
Originally $3.99 USD as a blind-bag Collectible Minifigure (CMF).
Compatible Sets
71024 (LEGO Minifigures - Disney Series 2). Often displayed with the 2019 Aladdin and Jasmine figures from the same series.
Character Background
The Royal Vizier of Agrabah and a powerful sorcerer from Disney's Aladdin (1992). He seeks the Magic Lamp to become Sultan and the most powerful being in the world.
Design Notes
The use of the 2x2x2 slope for legs was a deliberate choice to mimic the character's towering, slender animated silhouette. The turban is a unique mold specific to this character.
Similar Minifigures
dis011 (Genie), dis012 (Jasmine), dis014 (Aladdin), and the Genie version of Jafar included in the LEGO Disney Castle.
Collectibility
High. Villains are historically more collectible in the CMF lines, and Jafar is one of the big three 'Rennaisance-era' Disney villains alongside Ursula and Maleficent.
History
Until 2019, Jafar was only available as a mini-doll in the Disney Princess line; this version marked his debut as a proper LEGO minifigure for the 27th anniversary of the film.
Interesting Facts
Jafar is one of the few minifigures where his 'hat' (turban) and his 'hair/cape' (the black shoulder shawl) work together to create a seamless neck-to-head transition.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside the Disney Series 2 Iago bird piece or inside a custom Cave of Wonders MOC. Uses a standard 3x4 CMF baseplate for stability due to the slope brick.
Modification Potential
The head and turban are popular for 'Prince of Persia' or 'Ancient History' MOCs. The cobra staff is a highly sought-after element for Egyptian-themed builds.
Overall Assessment
A top-tier CMF release. It captures the character's menace perfectly through the custom-molded turban and the decision to use a dress slope instead of standard legs. A must-have for Disney collectors.
