cas060 · Castle
Lion Knights / King's Castle · 1995 (The figure debuted in the legendary set 6090 Royal Knight's Castle)

Figure ID
cas060
Theme
Castle
Year Released
1995 (The figure debuted in the legendary set 6090 Royal Knight's Castle)
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While the Royal Knights line was popular, this specific King was exclusive to only a few sets in the mid-90s. Finding one in pristine condition is difficult due to the chrome crown.
Head
Classic LEGO yellow head with red bushy mustache and eyebrows, featuring a 'determined' smirk. It typically wears the iconic Chrome Silver Crown (Part 6118).
Torso
Red torso with white sleeves and yellow hands. The front print features the Lion Knights crest (a black lion head on a white and red shield background) with a gold necklace/medallion and a black belt with a gold buckle.
Legs
Plain Blue legs with a Blue hip piece. Note: In some set variations or images, the King is depicted with the 'printed' legs, but cas060 specifically uses the plain blue variant.
Accessories
Usually equipped with a chrome silver sword or a grey halberd (as seen in the image). The most essential accessory is the Chrome Silver Crown; it also often came with a red or bicolored cape in set 6090.
Color Scheme
A patriotic mix of Red, White, Blue, and Yellow, accented by the prestigious Chrome Silver of the crown.
Printing Details
Standard mid-90s pad printing. Features single-sided torso printing and single-sided head printing. The lion crest is sharp but susceptible to scratching over time.
Variants
There are similar versions involving different leg prints (cas254) or different cape configurations. This specific version is the standard cas060 with the grey halberd.
Condition Notes
The primary concern is the 'Chrome Silver' crown. The chrome layer is notorious for flaking or wearing down to the grey plastic underneath. The red mustache print can also fade with heavy play.
Estimated Value
Used (Complete with Crown): $15 - $25 USD. New/Mint condition: $40+ USD. The crown alone can account for $5-$8 of the value if in perfect condition.
Price (New)
N/A (Individual figure was not sold separately). The flagship set 6090 Royal Knight's Castle retailed for approximately $90.00 USD in 1995.
Compatible Sets
6090 Royal Knight's Castle (1995), 6044 King's Carriage (1995), 1843/1752 Boat with King (1996).
Character Background
King Richard (often simply called The King) led the Royal Knights against the Dragon Knights and the Fright Knights. He is one of the most iconic 'good' kings in LEGO Castle history.
Design Notes
This figure marked a transition into more detailed torso printing compared to the earlier 1980s Crusaders, introducing more complex heraldry and the 'Chrome' era of LEGO accessories.
Similar Minifigures
King Leo (Knights Kingdom I), Classic King (Series 13 CMF), and the 2022 Lion Knights' King/Queen from set 10305.
Collectibility
High. He is the centerpiece of one of the most beloved Castle sets ever made (6090). Collectors of 90s nostalgia consider him a 'must-have'.
History
Following the Black Falcons and Crusaders, the Royal Knights (1995) introduced this King as a central protagonist. This was the first time a King figure felt like a distinct, high-status character rather than just a knight with a crown.
Interesting Facts
The Chrome Silver crown was a status symbol in the 90s playground. If your King lost his 'shiny', he was essentially demoted to a regular knight.
Display Suggestions
Display on a raised 'throne' MOC using grey slopes and red carpeting, or place him at the center of a phalanx of Royal Knight soldiers (cas061). Keep out of UV light to prevent torso yellowing.
Modification Potential
Pairs excellently with a red cloth cape to enhance royalty. The torso is often used in MOCs to represent high-ranking heralds or officials.
Overall Assessment
An A-tier vintage minifigure. The design is timeless, though the fragility of the chrome crown makes finding a 'perfect' one a rewarding challenge for serious collectors.
