Theme
Star Wars
Year Released
2008 (First released in its modern form in set 10188 Death Star)
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While it appeared in the mass-produced 10188 Death Star, that set was expensive and its production run for this specific R2-Q5 variant ended when the figure was updated in 2016.
Head
Black R2-D2 style dome with silver and copper/gold metallic printing. Features characteristic optic sensors and paneling specialized for an Imperial astromech.
Torso
Black cylindrical astromech body. High-detail silver and copper/gold metallic printing on the front depicting logic processors and power couplings. The back is typically unprinted for this era.
Legs
Standard black astromech legs (left and right), unprinted. These are friction-fit to the central body and do not include a third center leg (standard for this design era).
Accessories
None included. Astromech droids are considered complete without handheld accessories.
Color Scheme
A striking Imperial palette of Black, Silver metallic, and Copper/Gold metallic accents.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing. The metallic ink is particularly durable and vibrant, offering a sharp contrast against the black plastic. Printing is limited to the front of the body and the dome.
Variants
This 2008 version (sw0213) was succeeded by sw0783 in 2016, which features a light bluish gray dome and updated torso printing. An earlier, rarer version (sw0107) exists from 2004 with different dome printing.
Condition Notes
Watch for 'silvering' or rubbing on the metallic dome printing. The black plastic shows scratches and dust easily. The friction on the leg pins can loosen over time.

10188-1 Death Star (2008); 7958-1 Star Wars Advent Calendar (2011).
Character Background
R2-Q5 was an Imperial astromech droid stationed on the second Death Star. It was tasked with maintaining the station's defenses and was destroyed when the Battle of Endor concluded.
Design Notes
This figure marked a significant step up in detail for Imperial droids, moving away from simple two-color prints to the more sophisticated three-color metallic scheme.
Similar Minifigures
R2-D2 (sw0217), R5-J2 (sw0375), and the updated 2016 R2-Q5 (sw0783).
Collectibility
High for 'Empire' completionists. It is a staple droid for any Imperial hangar bay or Death Star display.
History
Initially introduced in the 2004 'TIE Collection' set, this 2008 redesign defined the character for nearly a decade before the 'fleshier' light gray dome version took over.
Interesting Facts
The silver and copper color scheme is intended to represent the droid's status as a high-end Imperial maintenance unit compared to the utilitarian R2-D2.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed inside a LEGO Death Star or alongside Imperial Stormtroopers and TIE Pilots to emphasize the dark aesthetic of the Galactic Empire.
Modification Potential
Users often add a third 'center leg' using extra parts to mimic the droid's tripod walking stance seen in the films.
Overall Assessment
A classic and visually appealing droid. The metallic printing is excellent, making it one of the better-looking astromechs from the mid-2000s era. High recommendation for Imperial army builders.
