Super Battle Droid - Pearl Dark Gray

Figure ID

sw0092

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2007 (First release of this specific color variant)

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. While mass-produced in the late 2000s, this specific version has been discontinued for years and is susceptible to plastic degradation, making surviving mint copies harder to find.

Head

Integrated with torso mold. The head is a small protrusion at the top of the body with a single molded sensor eye (no printing).

Torso

Molded Pearl Dark Gray torso with mechanical chest detailing. Features two socketed arms: one standard arm (sw0092a) and one blaster arm with a molded rocket/blaster nozzle (sw0092b).

Legs

Long, thin Pearl Dark Gray legs with a single-piece hip/leg mold. The feet are small rectangular plates designed to clip onto LEGO studs.

Accessories

None. The weaponry is integrated into the right arm mold as a blaster/rocket launcher.

Color Scheme

Pearl Dark Gray. This is a metallic finish plastic that provides a more screen-accurate appearance than the earlier 2002 Sand Blue version.

Printing Details

No printing. All details are achieved through the physical mold/sculpt, which includes chest plating and mechanical joints.

Variants

sw0056 (Sand Blue, 2002), sw0230 (Chrome Silver, 2009), and sw1072 (Updated mold with rounded arm sockets, 2020). This specimen is the classic 2007 Pearl Dark Gray version with square-ish shoulder sockets.

Condition Notes

High susceptibility to 'brittle plastic' syndrome common in Pearl Dark Gray and Brown parts. Arms and leg clips are prone to snapping if moved after long periods of storage. Look for stress marks (whitening) in the plastic at hinge points.

Estimated Value

Used Complete: $7.00 - $12.00 USD. New/Mint: $15.00 - $22.00 USD. Value is rising due to army-building demand.

Price (New)

Originally bundled in sets ranging from $9.99 (Battle Packs) to $100+ (Large Vehicles). The 7654 Droids Battle Pack (2007) offered 2 for $9.99.

Compatible Sets

7654 Droids Battle Pack, 7670 Hailfire Droid & Spider Droid, 7681 Separatist Spider Droid, 8018 Armored Assault Tank (AAT).

Character Background

The B2 Super Battle Droid was the heavy infantry of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Bulkier and more durable than the B1, they featured built-in wrist blasters and were a primary antagonist in the Prequel Trilogy and Clone Wars series.

Design Notes

Initial LEGO design used a more organic, curved mold compared to later versions. The arms and legs use a clip-and-bar system that allows for basic posing but is notoriously fragile compared to modern minifigures.

Similar Minifigures

sw0001 (B1 Battle Droid), sw0056 (Original B2 Droid), sw1072 (Modern B2 Droid).

Collectibility

High for Star Wars collectors and 'Army Builders' who seek to create vast Separatist droid armies. Its aesthetic remains many fans' favorite version due to the metallic finish.

History

First introduced in Sand Blue in 2002 for Episode II, this Pearl Dark Gray update arrived in 2007 to modernize the color. It remained the standard until a significant mold update in 2020.

Interesting Facts

This specific figure is notorious for breaking at the arm sockets. It is one of the few figures where the right and left arms are distinct and non-interchangeable due to the weapon mold.

Display Suggestions

Ideal for dioramas of the Battle of Geonosis or Kashyyyk. Grouping them in ranks of 4 to 8 enhances their 'menacing' screen presence. Display in a climate-controlled area to prevent plastic fatigue.

Modification Potential

Low due to specialized molds. Most fans use these in 'purist' MOCs, though some use metallic paint to weather the armor.

Overall Assessment

An iconic Star Wars LEGO figure. While flawed by fragile plastic, its design captured the bulk of the B2 perfectly. A 7/10 for design and a 9/10 for essential collector status.
