Legends of Chima

Year Released

2014. Debuted in the LEGO Legends of Chima theme which was launched as a major proprietary LEGO IP following the success of Ninjago, featuring anthropomorphic animal tribes battling for "CHI."

Rarity

Uncommon. Rogon appeared in several sets within the Chima line, but since the theme was discontinued in 2015, the figure is becoming harder to find in pristine condition.

Head

Unique light bluish gray rhinoceros-shaped headpiece/mask with purple markings and yellow eyes. Beneath the mask, the minifigure uses a standard yellow head with printing representing the character's face (heavy brows and grimace).

Torso

Light bluish gray torso with sand blue overalls printing, including tactical pockets, a belt, and a circular emblem. Features yellow arms and black hands.

Legs

Light bluish gray legs with detailed printing that continues the tactical overall look, including knee pads and belt utility details.

Accessories

Includes one pearl dark gray shoulder armor piece (pauldrons) and a pearl gold scimitar-style sword (representing a stone-themed weapon common to the Rhinoceros tribe).

Color Scheme

Primary colors are light bluish gray, sand blue, and bright yellow (arms). Accents include purple on the headpiece and pearl gold for the weapon.

Printing Details

High quality pad printing on the torso (front and back) and front of the legs. The mask features intricate purple line work and eye detailing.

Variants

There are several versions of Rogon. This version (loc055) features the 'armored' look. Other versions include a 'fire' variant with translucent orange parts and a standard unarmored version.

Condition Notes

The most common wear point is the printing on the rhino snout and the friction on the shoulder armor connector. Yellow arms are susceptible to hairline cracks at the elbows with heavy play.

Estimated Value

Used complete: $4.00 - $7.00 USD. New/Mint: $10.00 - $14.00 USD. Individual headpiece can sell for $2.00 - $3.00 alone.

Price (New)

This figure appeared in sets ranging from the Rogon's Rock Flinger ($29.99) to smaller polybags or battle packs, typically averaging a $4.00 value-per-figure in its era.

Compatible Sets

70131 Rogon's Rock Flinger, 70135 Cragger's Fire Stryker (as a captive), and 850913 Chima Fire and Ice Accessory Set.

Character Background

Rogon is the somewhat dim-witted but loyal prince of the Rhinoceros Tribe. In the Chima TV series, he is known for his slow speech and tendency to smash things with 'Rhinoceros wisdom.'

Design Notes

The Rhino head mold is a unique dual-mold design for the Chima theme, designed to sit over a standard head to allow for 'helmet-on' and 'helmet-off' play.

Similar Minifigures

Rinona, Rukus, and Runk (other members of the Rhino tribe), or Laval and Cragger from the same theme.

Collectibility

Moderate. Chima has a dedicated cult following, though it doesn't command the high prices of licensed themes like Star Wars. Most collectors seek to complete all tribe leaders.

History

Launched in the second wave of Chima (2014) when the focus shifted from the Lion/Crocodile conflict to include the Rhino and Spider tribes.

Interesting Facts

Despite their tough appearance in the LEGO sets, the Rhinos in the animated show were portrayed as very gentle and easily distracted, often speaking in the third person.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed alongside a Rhino Tribe vehicle like the Rock Flinger, or in a lineup showing the various tribal leaders of Chima.

Modification Potential

The tactical sand-blue torso is highly sought after by MOC builders for creating custom post-apocalyptic or steampunk characters.

Overall Assessment

A solid, well-detailed figure that perfectly encapsulates the creative creature-design era of mid-2010s LEGO. Highly recommended for fans of unique animal molds.
