Year Released

September 2010. Released as part of the second-ever blind-bag series, it marked the beginning of specialized printing on arms and more expressive character designs.

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. As a Series 2 figure from over a decade ago, it is no longer in production. While not as expensive as Mr. Gold, it is difficult to find in pristine condition with all original accessories.

Head

White face with black 'mask' paint around the eyes and a distressed/surprised wavy mouth. Includes a black beret headgear element. Dual-sided printing: One side is surprised, the other side (shown) is more distressed.

Torso

Black torso with white striped shirt printing, featuring two small white buttons and a shaped vest outline. A major highlight is the printed white and black striped arms, which was premium detailing in 2010.

Legs

Plain black legs without printing. The simplicity of the legs helps focus attention on the highly detailed torso and arm printing.

Accessories

Originally includes three interchangeable transparent-colored heads (Neon Orange, Neon Green, and Pink) representing different 'invisible' or mood-related props. The figure is also paired with a black 3x4 stand plate.

Color Scheme

A stark Monochrome Palette of black and white, accented by the white skin tone and the bright, transparent colors of the extra accessory heads.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the head and torso. The arm printing is particularly noteworthy for its alignment, wrapping around the curve of the arm to create the striped shirt effect.

Variants

This is the only version of this specific character. However, elements like the head and torso have been used in various MOCs and custom 'French' or 'street performer' figures.

Condition Notes

The white printing on the black torso and arms can be prone to scratching or 'fading' over time. The transparent heads are often lost or scuffed due to play. Check for cracks in the white hands.

Estimated Value

Used (Complete with extra heads): $15 - $22 USD. New (Sealed in packet): $25 - $35 USD. Incomplete/Loose: $8 - $12 USD.

Price (New)

Original retail price was $1.99 USD per blind bag in 2010.

Compatible Sets

8684-13 (Series 2 Minifigure individual packs); 8684-17 (Series 2 complete set of 16).

Character Background

A classic Parisian-style street performer specialized in the art of pantomime. In the LEGO universe, he is often portrayed as a whimsical but silent character likely to get stuck in an invisible box.

Design Notes

Reflects LEGO's early experimentation with unconventional printing locations (arms). The use of transparent heads as 'imaginary' props was a clever use of existing transparent parts.

Similar Minifigures

Series 1 Circus Clown, Series 10 Sad Clown, Series 15 Frightened Knight (uses similar distressed facial expressions), and the LEGO Batman Movie Mime (sh0320).

Collectibility

Highly collectible for completionists of the original 1-20 CMF series. It remains a fan favorite due to its unique aesthetic and usefulness in City-themed dioramas.

History

Released during a pivotal era for LEGO when the CMF line was revitalizing interest in the brand. It was one of the first figures to show that LEGO could create character-specific tropes accurately.

Interesting Facts

The Mime is the first minifigure in the CMF line to include three alternate heads as standard accessories, essentially giving the collector extra valuable parts in a $2 bag.

Display Suggestions

Place in a bustling City Square scene or outside a Modular Building like the Parisian Restaurant. Use clear bricks to build an 'invisible' box around him.

Modification Potential

Excellent for creating custom French characters, sailors, or 1920s-style prisoners (due to the stripes). The beret and striped arms are highly sought after for purist MOCs.

Overall Assessment

Rating: 8.5/10. A landmark figure in the CMF series. Its monochrome look and expressive face make it stand out in any collection. A must-have for those collecting the early history of the blind-bag series.
