Figure ID

Theme

Harry Potter

Year Released

2018; debuted in the Great Hall set as part of the theme's soft reboot/revival, which introduced the modern tall-leg/short-leg/medium-leg system and high-detail printing.

Rarity

Uncommon / Rare; although not an exclusive promotional item, he was only ever produced in a single high-priced set (75954) from the 2018 wave, which has since been retired.

Head

Double-sided Light Nougat head with elderly features. Side one shows a grimacing, suspicious expression with furrowed brows; side two shows a more angry, shouting mouth. Includes a unique greyish-brown balding hair piece with long side tufts (Part 38800).

Torso

Dark Bluish Gray jacket over a Sand Green vest with a white shirt and necktie. Includes fine printing of lapels, buttons, and stitching on both the front and back. The arms are Dark Bluish Gray with Light Nougat hands.

Legs

Black legs with printing on the front. The design includes a tan/brown belt with a buckle and various silver/grey chain links hanging from the waist, representing his iconic dungeon keys.

Accessories

Typically comes with a dark brown/black lantern consisting of a lamp base and a trans-orange round brick (as seen in image). In his original set, he is often accompanied by Mrs. Norris (the cat).

Color Scheme

A muted palette of Dark Bluish Gray, Black, and Sand Green, reflecting the character's drab and grim aesthetic in the films.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing. Notable details include the individual keys printed on the hips and the subtle wrinkles on the face. Printing extends to the back of the torso.

Variants

This is currently the only modern version of Argus Filch. A much older version (hp029) existed in 2004 with yellow skin and significantly less detail.

Condition Notes

The Dark Bluish Gray torso is durable, but some collectors report the 2018-era balding hair piece can have a tighter fit than usual. Check the lantern handle for stress marks and the legs for 'key' print rubbing.

Character Background

The caretaker and 'Squib' of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Known for his bitter attitude toward the students and his intense devotion to his cat, Mrs. Norris.

Design Notes

The 2018 mold for Filch's hair/balding head is a masterpiece of character-specific design, perfectly capturing David Bradley's portrayal in the Harry Potter film series.

Similar Minifigures

Severus Snape (hp128), Sybill Trelawney (colhp-16), and the 2004 version of Filch (hp029).

Collectibility

High; as the only modern version of a key supporting character, he is essential for completing a modern Hogwarts castle display. Demand remains strong as the set he belongs to is no longer in production.

History

Follows the 14-year gap between the original yellow-skin Filch and this modern flesh-toned version. This figure marked a significant jump in realism for secondary Harry Potter characters.

Interesting Facts

Despite being a main character in the films, it took 14 years for LEGO to update his design from the 2004 original. The lantern he carries is a redesigned part from earlier castle themes.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed lurking near the doors of the 75954 Great Hall or in a hallway vignette with Mrs. Norris and a 'Proclamation' tile.

Modification Potential

The hair piece is popular for custom 'mad scientist' or 'grumpy old man' minifigures in MOCs. The torso is excellent for Victorian-era or Steampunk customs.

Overall Assessment

Score: 9/10. An excellent translation of a film character to brick form. Highly desirable for its exclusivity to one set and the high level of detail in the head and leg printing.
