Theme

Legends of Chima

Year Released

2014-2015. Vornon debuted during the Fire vs. Ice wave, a period where LEGO moved towards high-detail character printing and complex neck-mounted armor pieces.

Rarity

Uncommon. He appeared in three sets, making him accessible during production, but as a specific named character from a retired non-evergreen theme, his market availability is naturally decreasing.

Head

The figure features a unique Vulture-style bird head mold in black with silver/grey beak printing and specialized eye details. Unlike standard minifigures, this is a molded head rather than a headpiece over a stud.

Torso

Black torso with detailed Ice Hunter armor printing including purple accents and rib-caged mechanical detailing. It includes black arms and black hands. The back features reciprocal armor printing.

Legs

Black legs with intricate printing featuring the Vulture tribe's emblem (inverted yellow 'V') and claw/talon patterns on the feet. The print extends to the hips.

Accessories

Includes a Trans-Light Blue chest armor piece (Life CHI) which is neck-mounted. In sets, he typically carries a 'Chimachines' weapon made of various technic and clip pieces, often featuring trans-blue elements.

Color Scheme

A primary color palette of Black and Dark Stone Grey, with Trans-Light Blue armor and hits of purple and gold/yellow in the printing to signify tribe rank and mystical power.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing across the head, torso, and legs. Alignment is generally excellent, featuring sharp metallic silver and subtle purple weathering effects that were standard for the 2014 Chima era.

Variants

Vornon remains largely consistent across his set appearances, though certain versions of the Vulture warriors are generic. Vornon is distinguished by his specific beak and armor marking configurations.

Condition Notes

The molded beak tip is the most common failure point, prone to paint rubbing. The trans-blue armor can develop internal stress fractures or 'cloudiness' if subjected to heat or pressure.

Estimated Value

Used Complete: $3.00 - $6.00 USD. New: $8.00 - $12.00 USD. Value is stable but low due to Chima's current niche status in the secondary market.

Price (New)

He was available in sets ranging from the Vulture Sky Scavenger ($39.99) to the Ice Bite's Claw Driller ($79.99), as well as smaller polybag/blister packs.

Compatible Sets

70145 Maula's Ice Mammoth, 70223 Ice Bite's Claw Driller, 70135 Cragger's Fire Stryker (as a foil pack or accessory set).

Character Background

Vornon is a member of the Vulture Tribe, a faction of the Ice Hunters led by Sir Fangar. Unlike his more sinister comrades, Vornon is often depicted as having a more nervous or 'half-asleep' personality in the Chima TV series.

Design Notes

The Chima molded heads remain some of the most complex non-humanoid sculpts LEGO has produced. The integration of the CHI crystal harness via the neck-bracket armor was an innovative way to add 'power-up' play features.

Similar Minifigures

Voom Voom (loc079), Vardy (loc077), and the Eagle tribe warriors (like Eris or Ewar) who share the avian mold architecture but with different color palettes.

Collectibility

Moderate. High for Chima completionists and those who appreciate unique animal molds. Low for general collectors who prefer licensed themes or 'Classic' LEGO styles.

History

Launched during the second half of the Legends of Chima run, Vornon represents the transition to the 'cold' aesthetic that replaced the initial 'Jungle/Lion' aesthetic of the 2013 launch.

Interesting Facts

In the TV show, Vornon's voice and behavior suggest he is constantly bored or underwhelmed, which is reflected in the slightly droopy-eyed expression of the head mold compared to other Ice Hunters.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed with other Ice Hunters on a trans-blue 'ice' baseplate or atop a mountainous rock MOC. UV protection is recommended to keep the black plastic from becoming brittle.

Modification Potential

The head mold is highly popular among 'purist' MOC builders creating custom bird creatures or anthropomorphic fantasy races. The legs and torso are great for dark-fantasy or steampunk villains.

Overall Assessment

A solid, high-detail figure that exemplifies the peak of LEGO's experimental printing and molding from the mid-2010s. Excellent value-for-money for collectors of unique creature parts.
