Figure ID

Theme

Ninjago

Year Released

2022. It debuted in the summer wave of the 15th (or 16th depending on classification) season of the Ninjago television series.

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. While available in multiple sets, these were higher-priced sets. The Crystalized line has since been discontinued, increasing demand for the main antagonist.

Head

Transparent bright pink / magenta head with menacing red eyes and crystalline patterns. It is topped with a dual-molded black and translucent pink specialized helmet/crown piece resembling a dragon skull with jagged crystals.

Torso

Trans-Pink torso with internal and external printing. Features a dark purple and silver crystalline armor pattern on the front and back, with pink energy visible through the gaps in the armor.

Legs

Dual-colored legs (Dark Purple and Dark Stone Grey) with intricate printing. The left leg features a 'robotic' armored look with grey and silver, while the right leg is printed with trans-pink crystal effects.

Accessories

Typically comes with a crystalline sword or the Crystal King's scythe. This specific figure is often seen with the 'Crystallized' weapon elements made of Trans-Pink plastic.

Color Scheme

A striking blend of Trans-Pink (Magenta), Dark Purple, Black, and Dark Stone Grey, representing the 'corrupted' crystal energy and darkness of the character.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the torso front/back and legs. The trans-flesh colors on the plastic allow light to pass through, creating a glowing effect that highlights the detailed silver and purple line work.

Variants

There are multiple forms of the Overlord (Golden Master, Legacy versions). This specific version represents him as the 'Crystal King'. A 4-armed version also exists (njo754).

Condition Notes

The trans-pink plastic is prone to micro-scratches which can dull the transparency. Check the neck joint for stress marks, as the specialized crown piece exerts more pressure when rotated than standard hair pieces.

Estimated Value

$10 - $18 USD used; $20+ USD in new condition. Value fluctuate based on the popularity of the Crystalized season's aftermarket sets.

Price (New)

Included in sets ranging from the $65 Crystal King (71772) to the $140 Crystal King Temple (71771). He was not sold as a standalone character.

Compatible Sets

71771 The Crystal King Temple, 71772 The Crystal King, 71775 Nya's Samurai X MECH.

Character Background

The Overlord is the ultimate manifestation of evil in the Ninjago universe. In 'Crystalized', he returns as the Crystal King to assemble a council of the ninjas' past enemies to conquer Ninjago once and for all.

Design Notes

The use of 'trans-pink' for the body plastic was a bold design choice for this wave, moving away from the traditional solid-colored villains to create a more ethereal, energy-based look.

Similar Minifigures

General Vangelis (Crystalized), Council of the Crystal King members, and previous Overlord versions such as njo084 (Golden Master).

Collectibility

High. Villains of this caliber (the 'Grand Antagonist' of the series) always retain high value among Ninjago completionists and the younger demographic of the fan base.

History

First appearing in 2013 as a legacy antagonist, this 2022 redesign was the first time the Overlord received a fully cohesive, color-coordinated 'Crystalline' aesthetic across all parts.

Interesting Facts

The crown piece is actually a re-color of pieces seen in the Hidden Side or Monkie Kid lines but used here to perfectly evoke the 'Crystalized' aesthetic.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed with a backlight or on a light-up brick to take advantage of the translucent pink plastic, making the figure look like it is glowing with dark energy.

Modification Potential

Excellent. Many fans use these parts to create custom 'Crystallized' versions of other heroes or to build larger, four-armed MOCs of the character's final form.

Overall Assessment

9/10. One of the best-designed Ninjago villains of the modern era. The combination of translucent parts and highly detailed armor printing makes it a standout for any collection.
