Mandalorian Super Commando

Figure ID

sw0494

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2013, released in Set 75022 (Mandalorian Speeder)

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. It was exclusive to a single mid-priced set released a decade ago, making high-quality versions harder to find as the popularity of Mandalorian lore has surged.

Head

Simple black head piece (solid color) without facial printing, meant to act as a dark void behind the helmet's visor.

Torso

Dark blue torso with Mandalorian armor plate printing in sand blue and dark gray. Includes detailed belt printing and dark blue arms with gray hands.

Legs

Dark blue legs with gray hip piece and a printed light gray stripe representing the armor's kama or lower plating detail.

Accessories

Includes a Pearl Dark Gray Mandalorian helmet with unique Blue and Shadow Gray markings. Typically armed with a short black blaster (as seen in image) or two blaster pistols.

Color Scheme

A striking mix of Dark Blue, Sand Blue, and Pearl Dark Gray, mirroring the Mauldalorian (Shadow Collective) color palette from the animated series.

Printing Details

Highly detailed for its era; features crisp lines on the helmet visor and chest plates. Includes back printing that mimics the jetpack attachment points and armor contours.

Variants

There are no official LEGO variants of sw0494; however, it is often confused with the 'Mandalorian Super Commando' from 2023 (sw1275), which has significantly more complex printing and a different helmet mold.

Condition Notes

The pearl gray helmet is prone to visible scratches. The dark blue plastic of the legs and torso hides wear well but check for 'arm cracks' (stress marks under the armpits) which are common in 2013-era figures.

Estimated Value

$25 - $35 USD (Used/Good Condition); $45+ USD (New/Mint Condition). Individual helmet pieces can sell for $10+ alone.

Price (New)

Originally included in Set 75022 which retailed for $24.99 USD in 2013. The set contained two of these minifigures.

Compatible Sets

Appears exclusively in Set 75022: Mandalorian Speeder (2013).

Character Background

These warriors served under Darth Maul's Shadow Collective during the takeover of Mandalore in the Clone Wars. They modified their armor with red/black or blue/gray colors to show allegiance to the former Sith Lord.

Design Notes

This figure is notable for the unique 'V' shape printing on the helmet, which accurately depicts the modified visors seen in the Season 5 finale of The Clone Wars.

Similar Minifigures

Jango Fett (sw0468), Pre Vizsla (sw0416), and the 2023 Mandalorian Super Commando (sw1275).

Collectibility

High. The Mandalorian surge in popular culture has made all 'Mando' variants highly desirable. Figures from the Clone Wars sub-theme are particularly stable in value.

History

Released during the final wave of 'The Clone Wars' sets before the show's initial cancellation. This figure represents LEGO's first attempt at faction-specific Mandalorian soldiers beyond the generic blue Death Watch versions.

Interesting Facts

Despite serving Darth Maul, this specific blue variant represents the 'loyalist' or early transition colors before the Collective fully adopted Maul's red 'horn' aesthetic seen on other commandos.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed alongside Darth Maul (sw0493) or in a MOC of the Mandalore throne room. UV-protected acrylic cases are recommended because the dark blue can fade over decades if exposed to direct sunlight.

Modification Potential

Excellent for purist customs. The torso and legs are often used to build custom 'Shadow Collective' squads or to upgrade older Boba Fett figures with a more muted blue color palette.

Overall Assessment

A standout figure from the 2013 lineup. It offers a unique color palette not found in other Mandalorian figures and remains a centerpiece for any Clone Wars collector. A 'Buy' for fans of the Siege of Mandalore arc.
