Rarity
Uncommon. He appeared in three sets but is exclusive to the 2019 wave of the Pyro Vipers subtheme.
Head
A translucent orange snake head piece with a solid reddish-brown top (dual-molded or over-molded). It represents the Pyro Viper Serpentine look with molded fiery scales.
Torso
Tan torso with mummy-wrap printing, featuring burnt edges and orange flame details. Reddish-brown arms and dark brown hands.
Legs
Tan legs with matching mummy-wrapped tape and flame print. The printing includes the hip piece to continue the bandage aesthetic.
Accessories
Usually comes with a coiled snake tail (when replacing legs) or a scimitar. In this image, he is wearing the 'Armor Shoulder Pad with Two Studs on Back' in copper/pearl dark brown.
Color Scheme
A mix of Tan, Reddish Brown, and Trans-Orange. The transparent orange elements give a glowing, lava-like appearance characteristic of the Fire Chapter villains.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the torso front, back, and legs. The detail includes tattered cloth textures and vibrant flame sparks that contrast against the tan 'wraps'.
Variants
This specific version is njo533. He is nearly identical to the Pyro Slayer (njo534) but is distinguished by his specific head patterning and rank within the set assortments.
Condition Notes
Common wear points include the neck joint where the armor sits and the gold/copper finish on the armor which can scratch. Check the trans-orange plastic for stress marks (micro-cracks).
Estimated Value
Used: $4.00 - $6.00 USD; New: $7.00 - $10.00 USD. Value is stable as he is a named general but common enough for easy acquisition.
Price (New)
Available in sets ranging from $19.99 (70672) to $99.99 (70677). Not sold as a standalone figure.
Compatible Sets
70672 Cole's Dirt Bike, 70675 Katana 4x4, and 70677 Land Bounty.
Character Background
Char is the loyal general of the sorceress Aspheera, leader of the Pyro Vipers. He is a member of the Serpentine who was transformed into a fire-undead form by the Forbidden Spinjitzu.
Design Notes
The head mold is the standout feature, using a mix of solid and transparent plastics to simulate fire. This era moved away from the more traditional 'mummy' look of the 2012 Serpentine into a more elemental aesthetic.
Similar Minifigures
Aspheera (njo541), Pyro Destroyer (njo540), and Pyro Slayer (njo534). Also shares DNA with the 'Monster Fighters' Mummy from 2012.
Collectibility
Moderate. Ninjago collectors often seek a complete 'Serpentine General' collection, making him a necessary piece for completionists of the Season 11 era.
History
Follows the long tradition of Ninjago snake villains (Hypnobrai, Fangpyre, etc.). This 2019 version represented a 'reboot' of snake-themed enemies with a fire-based twist.
Interesting Facts
Char is often depicted as slightly clumsy or over-eager in the TV series, providing comic relief despite his fearsome 'undead' appearance.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed on a dark grey or lava-themed MOC baseplate to emphasize the trans-orange glow. Pair him with Aspheera and her fire snake to complete the scene.
Modification Potential
The head piece is highly sought after for 'Elemental Fire' custom figures. The mummy-wrapped tan legs and torso are also excellent for custom Egyptian-themed MOCs.
Overall Assessment
A solid, well-detailed villain with excellent part-usage. Rating: 7/10 for design, 5/10 for investment value. A must-have for Ninjago fans but relatively common for general collectors.
