Darth Vader - Arm Printing, Two-Piece Helmet

Figure ID

sw1129

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2020 (Released in Set 75291 'Death Star Final Duel')

Rarity

Uncommon. While not a limited convention exclusive, it is a highly sought-after version of the character because it is one of the few standard retail versions to include highly-detailed arm printing.

Head

Features a light bluish gray 'scarred' head (ID 34960) with dual-sided printing showing Anakin Skywalker's pale, battle-damaged face. It includes a two-piece helmet (top and chin piece) which allows for the iconic revealing of the face.

Torso

Black torso with detailed mechanical life support system printing. Features silver and red control buttons. This specific variant (sw1129) includes unique silver-metallic arm printing to represent the jointed suit plating.

Legs

Black legs with printing that continues the tunic length down the front and detailed robe folds on the hips and legs. No side printing on legs for this version.

Accessories

Typically comes with a red lightsaber (trans-red blade with a chrome or silver hilt) and a soft black fabric cape. The cape is the newer spongy fabric rather than the old stiff starched style.

Color Scheme

Predominantly black with secondary colors of light bluish gray, silver, red, and blue for the control panel details. Skin tone is light gray to reflect the character's appearance in 'Return of the Jedi'.

Printing Details

Extremely high quality pad printing. Features front and back torso printing, front head printing, and the signature silver 'seam' arm printing which is a premium feature for Star Wars minifigures.

Variants

There are over 40 versions of LEGO Darth Vader. Distinguished from sw0585 (2014) by the 2-piece helmet, and from sw0636 by the specific arm printing and updated torso details found in the 2020+ era.

Condition Notes

The soft fabric cape is prone to fraying at the edges. The neck of the torso is a common stress point due to the thickness of the cape and the chin piece of the helmet. Check for arm printing wear.

Estimated Value

Current market value used: $35.00 - $45.00. New/Mint condition: $50.00+. Prices fluctuate based on the availability of Darth Vader in current cheaper play sets.

Price (New)

Originally available in set 75291 which retailed for $99.99. It became a significant part of the 'Final Duel' sets' value proposition.

Compatible Sets

75291 Death Star Final Duel (2020), 75294 Bespin Duel (2020), 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama (2022).

Character Background

The primary antagonist of the original Star Wars trilogy, once known as Anakin Skywalker. This figure represents his look during the climactic duels of the Galactic Civil War.

Design Notes

The two-piece helmet, introduced around 2015, was a massive upgrade to the 1999-2014 single mold, allowing for more accurate 'unmasking' scenes from the films.

Similar Minifigures

sw0636 (Darth Vader with soft cape, no arm print), sw1205 (25th Anniversary version), sw0930 (Bacta Tank Vader).

Collectibility

High. Because this variant includes the dual-molded helmet AND arm printing, it is considered the 'definitive' version for many collectors who do not want to spend $200+ on the Chrome or Cloud City versions.

History

LEGO Star Wars launched in 1999 with a very simple Vader. This 2020 version represents over 20 years of design evolution in plastic molding and 360-degree printing capability.

Interesting Facts

The arm printing on this figure was a point of controversy among fans because it was initially exclusive to more expensive sets before appearing in the Diorama series.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed on a transparent stand to simulate his height, or within a 'throne room' MOC. Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent the light gray head piece from yellowing.

Modification Potential

Pairs well with custom capes from third-party sellers like Cape Cantina if a wire-poseable look is desired. The arms are highly desirable for 'purist' customizers.

Overall Assessment

10/10 for design. This is widely considered the best 'standard' Darth Vader LEGO has ever produced. A must-have for any serious Star Wars collector.
