Skybound · 2016 (Debuted in January wave)

Figure ID
njo195
Theme
Ninjago
Year Released
2016 (Debuted in January wave)
Rarity
Uncommon. While he appeared in four sets, the specific dual-toned aesthetic and unique headpiece make him a desirable antagonist figure from a very popular wave.
Head
Features a unique reddish-brown turban mold. The face is yellow with a prominent black handlebar mustache, angry eyebrows, and white paint-like markings around the eyes, intended to look like a mask or face paint.
Torso
Dark green torso with yellow arms and dark brown hands. The printing features a dark red vest/tunic detail with a silver belt buckle and a 'Skyband' symbol (a stylized skull with crossbones/swords) on the chest.
Legs
Features unique dual-colored legs; the right leg is dark brown with a peg-leg mold at the bottom, and the left leg is dark green. The hips are dark brown.
Accessories
Included here is a pearl gold scimitar (shamshir/cutlass). In original sets, he often carried two of these or a larger heavy weapon.
Color Scheme
A complex palette of Dark Green, Dark Brown, and Yellow, accented by Reddish Brown and Silver printing.
Printing Details
High quality pad printing on the torso front and back. The torso design includes intricate strap details and the Sky Pirate emblem. No leg printing, as the visual interest comes from the two-tone plastic mold and peg-leg shape.
Variants
There are no significant production variants of njo195, though the character appears in the Ninjago TV show with a two-faced 'Spirit' mask which this minifigure portrays with the face-paint printing.
Condition Notes
Common wear points include the 'peg-leg' tip which can get chewed or flattened. Check for cracks in the dark brown hands and torso sides, as dark brown and dark green plastics from this era can occasionally be brittle.
Estimated Value
Used: $3.00 - $6.00 USD. New/Mint: $7.00 - $10.00 USD. Price varies based on the inclusion of the specific turban piece which is often lost.
Price (New)
He appeared in sets ranging from the $14.99 Sky Shark to the $119.99 Misfortune's Keep. He was not sold individually (CMF).
Compatible Sets
70601 Sky Shark, 70603 Raid Zeppelin, 70605 Misfortune's Keep, and 70594 The Lighthouse Siege.
Character Background
Doubloon was a former member of the Destiny's Bounty crew who was turned into an oriental-styled 'silent' pirate after being cursed by Nadakhan the Djinn. He is known for being a master thief and having two faces (one happy, one angry), though the figure represents the angry scowl.
Design Notes
The peg-leg mold is a classic LEGO Pirate piece repurposed here in dark brown. The turban (Part 23145) was a relatively new mold at the time, adding a distinct 'Eastern' pirate flair to the Skybound wave.
Similar Minifigures
Nadakhan (njo194), Flintlocke (njo197), Muncher (njo192), and Bucko (njo191).
Collectibility
Moderate. He is essential for completing the crew of the Misfortune's Keep. While not as expensive as the Djinn, he is a 'named' antagonist which holds more value than generic pirate grunts.
History
Released during the 6th season of Ninjago. This era marked a shift toward highly detailed, character-driven villain groups rather than generic armies.
Interesting Facts
In the show, Doubloon never speaks. He is one of the few characters to use the peg-leg piece outside of the traditional LEGO Pirates theme.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed on the deck of a Skybound-era vessel or in a lineup with the other members of Nadakhan’s crew. Use a clear trans-clear stand to simulate the 'Skybound' floating theme.
Modification Potential
The reddish-brown turban and dual-colored legs are highly prized for custom 'Steampunk' or 'Ancient Persian' MOCs.
Overall Assessment
A solid, well-designed antagonist from one of Ninjago's most creative eras. The unique leg mold and turban make him stand out from standard minifigures. Rating: 7/10 for design and playability.
