General Magmar
nex053 · NEXO KNIGHTS
Wave 2 - The Stone Army · 2016

Figure ID
nex053
Theme
NEXO KNIGHTS
Year Released
2016
Rarity
Uncommon. He only appeared in two sets during the peak of the Nexo Knights theme, making him less common than basic foot soldiers like Lava Smashers.
Head
Yellow skin tone featuring a dual-sided print. One side depicts a menacing grin with yellow eyes and a mechanical/volcanic headpiece print; the other shows an angry expression with bared teeth. He typically wears a red or trans-orange crest or hair piece, though it is missing in the photo.
Torso
Flat Silver torso with heavy armor plating print in grey and dark orange. It features the Magma emblem. The arms are mismatched: the right arm is flat silver with orange detailing, and the left arm (in this image, partially obscured or replaced) is typically dark grey or silver. Hands are red.
Legs
Flat Silver legs with extensive printing. Detailed with dark orange and orange molten lava patterns, grey armor plates, and knee pad highlights. The hip piece is dark grey.
Accessories
In the image, he is wearing a Flat Silver neck bracket armor piece with trans-orange shoulder spikes. Missing original accessories include his dual-bladed staff and usually a circular Nexo Power shield. The headgear (hair/flame) is also missing.
Color Scheme
Primary colors are Flat Silver, Dark Orange, and Red, accented with Trans-Orange. This mimics a volcanic, molten rock aesthetic.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the head, torso (front and back), and legs (front). The alignment is precise, characteristic of mid-2010s LEGO production where detail density significantly increased.
Variants
There is only one official version of General Magmar (nex053), though some collectors may mistake him for other lava-themed generals like Burnzie (large figure) or Flama.
Condition Notes
Common wear points include the silver coating on the torso and legs, which can show scratches or 'play wear' easily. The trans-orange 'spikes' on the armor are prone to snapping if stepped on. This specific figure is missing its hair/helmet piece and weapons.
Estimated Value
Used (Complete): $5.00 - $8.00 USD. Used (Incomplete as shown): $3.00 - $4.00 USD. New: Rarely sold loose, usually valued at $12.00+ as part of a sealed set context.
Price (New)
He appeared in set 70321 ($39.99) and 70338 ($9.99). The price-per-minifig ratio varied, but he was most accessible in the Ultimate General Magmar set.
Compatible Sets
70321 General Magmar's Siege Machine of Doom; 70338 Ultimate General Magmar.
Character Background
General Magmar is the chief strategist and leader of Jestro’s Lava Monster Army. He is known for being more intelligent and disciplined than the average lava monster, serving as the primary antagonist of the second wave of the Nexo Knights story.
Design Notes
The use of Flat Silver as a primary body color for a villain was a departure from traditional 'black/red' villain tropes, intended to give the Lava Army a more 'structured' and 'armored' feel. The shoulder armor mold was unique to the Nexo Knights line.
Similar Minifigures
General Kozu (Ninjago), Moltor (Nexo Knights), Flama (Nexo Knights), and Jestro.
Collectibility
Moderate. Nexo Knights has a dedicated cult following, but lacks the mainstream investment 'hype' of Star Wars or Classic Space. He is a must-have for anyone completing the 'Lava Monster' faction.
History
Released during the second wave of Nexo Knights in mid-2016. This era marked LEGO's attempt to bridge physical play with digital gaming through the Nexo Scan feature on shields.
Interesting Facts
Despite being a 'Lava' creature, his skin tone is classic LEGO yellow rather than the trans-orange used for some of his subordinates, suggesting a higher status or different origin among the monsters.
Display Suggestions
Display on a black or dark grey baseplate to make the silver and orange pop. Looks best alongside Jestro and a horde of Lava Smashers.
Modification Potential
Excellent for 'Dark Knight' or 'Steam-punk' MOCs. The silver armor and leg printing are highly versatile for custom fantasy warriors.
Overall Assessment
A solid, highly-detailed figure from a creative era of LEGO. While the missing headgear and weapons in the photo lower its value, the torso and leg prints remain some of the best in the Nexo Knights line. Rating: 7/10 for design, 4/10 for current rarity.
