Theme

Year Released
2015 - Released as part of the Star Wars Episode VII era wave but based on Legends (expanded universe) content.
Rarity
Uncommon. While it only appeared in one relatively affordable battle pack, that set is now retired, and the figure is highly sought after by army builders.
Head
The head is plain black (no printing) because it is entirely obscured by the specialized Shadow Guard helmet mold. The helmet features a trans-red visor insert effect.
Torso
Black torso with silver/light grey printing depicting dark robes and armor folds. It features a minimalist aesthetic consistent with the 'Shadow' variant of the Royal Guard. The back is also printed with robe contours.
Legs
Plain black legs with a black hip piece. No printing is present on the legs, keeping the focus on the unique helmet and torso design.
Accessories
Usually equipped with a Lightsaber Pike (a black lightsaber hilt with a long transparent red blade). The image shows the figure holding a silver hilt, which may be a partial part of the pike or a standard lightsaber.
Color Scheme
Monochromatic black with trans-red accents in the visor. This 'stealth' palette is the defining characteristic of the Shadow Guard compared to the classic red Royal Guard.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the torso. The lines are thin and sharp to represent fabric folds. There is no printing on the head or legs, which was standard for this type of guard figure to maintain a clean look.
Variants
This is the primary version of the sw0604. It is a direct palette swap of the Red Royal Guard (sw0521) found in the Death Star sets of that era.
Condition Notes
The most common issue is scratching on the prominent 'pointed' chin of the helmet and the visor area. The black plastic shows fingerprints and 'play wear' scratches more easily than lighter colors.
Estimated Value
Used: $8.00 - $12.00 USD; New: $15.00+ USD. The value has remained relatively stable but sees spikes when Shadow Guard characters appear in new Star Wars media like video games.
Price (New)
Originally available in set 75079 Shadow Troopers which retailed for $12.99 USD. This set included two Shadow Guards and two Shadow Stormtroopers.
Compatible Sets
Set 75079 (Shadow Troopers Battle Pack).
Character Background
Shadow Guards are elite, Force-sensitive protectors used by Emperor Palpatine and occasionally commanded by Darth Vader. They first rose to prominence in the 'The Force Unleashed' video game.
Design Notes
Uses the 2014 updated Royal Guard helmet mold. This mold was a significant improvement over the 2001 version as it is more screen-accurate and sleek.
Similar Minifigures
sw0521 Royal Guard (Red), sw0040 Royal Guard (Classic), sw0603 Shadow Stormtrooper.
Collectibility
High. Because they are often purchased in multiples for 'army building' dioramas, there is a consistent secondary market demand for this specific version.
History
Lego first introduced Royal Guards in 2001; the Shadow Guard variant did not appear until 2015, marking a period where LEGO was more willing to explore 'Legends' content.
Interesting Facts
Despite being called 'Shadow Guards,' they are technically Force-sensitive, unlike standard Stormtroopers, which is why they carry lightsaber-based weaponry.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed in pairs flanking a Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine minifigure. They look excellent on a grey or black 'Death Star' style baseplate with red accent lighting.
Modification Potential
Excellent for Sith-themed MOCs. The helmet is often used by customizers to create 'Inquisitor' style characters or dark-side warriors.
Overall Assessment
A sleek, menacing, and essential figure for Star Wars collectors. Its simple design is elevated by the unique helmet mold and the striking trans-red visor.
