Rarity
Uncommon. While only originally appearing in one retail set and one polybag, it was mass-produced during its 2013-2015 run. It is now discontinued.
Head
Reddish Brown skin tone with a printed black eye patch over the left eye, dark brown goatee, and furrowed brow expression. No hair piece is used as it depicts the bald cinematic/Ultimate version.
Torso
Dark Blue torso with printing depicting a S.H.I.E.L.D. tactical jumpsuit. Features a light blue collar section, a shoulder strap on the left side, and a utility belt with a silver circular buckle. Arms are dark blue with reddish brown hands.
Legs
Dark Blue legs with printing onto the hip and front of the legs. The design includes continued utility belt detail and a printed gadget/map on the left thigh pocket area with a red arrow detail.
Accessories
In its original set (76004), it did not include handheld accessories, though Nick Fury is often paired with a black pistol or a translucent blue brick to represent the Tesseract.
Color Scheme
A primary color palette of Dark Blue and Reddish Brown, accented by light blue, silver, and black printed details.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing typical of 2013 Marvel figures. Printing is restricted to the front of the head, front of the torso, and front of the legs/hips. No back or arm printing is present.
Variants
This is the 'Ultimate' version. Other variants include the MCU Trenchcoat version (sh185), the Captain Marvel version (sh559), and the newer grey-bearded Spider-Man: Far From Home version (sh584).
Condition Notes
Prone to hairline cracks on the torso sides (under arms) and potential play wear on the silver belt buckle print. The reddish-brown hands are a common point for 'bitemarks' or stress.
Estimated Value
Used Complete: $8.00 - $12.00 USD. New/Unassembled: $15.00 - $20.00 USD.
Price (New)
Original set 76004 retailed for $19.99 USD in 2013, which included three minifigures (Spider-Man, Venom, Nick Fury), making the figure's original inclusive value about $6.67.
Compatible Sets
76004 Spider-Man: Spider-Cycle Chase (2013), 30448 Spider-Man vs. The Venom Symbiote Polybag (2016).
Character Background
Based on the Ultimate Marvel Comics and 'Ultimate Spider-Man' animated series version of Nick Fury, modeled after Samuel L. Jackson. He serves as the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a mentor to young heroes.
Design Notes
The printed 'map' on the leg is a clever detail meant to represent a tactical display. This was one of the first figures to firmly establish the Samuel L. Jackson likeness in LEGO form.
Similar Minifigures
sh185 Nick Fury (Trenchcoat), sh038 Spider-Man (Black Webbing), sh055 Venom (White Spikes).
Collectibility
Moderate. It is a staple character for Marvel collectors, though the trenchcoat version and the newer 'Secret Invasion' style variants often command more interest.
History
This was the very first Nick Fury minifigure ever produced by LEGO, marking a milestone for the S.H.I.E.L.D. sub-faction within the theme.
Interesting Facts
The printed gadget on the left leg is actually a repurposed print element from the LEGO City Forest Police line, where it was used as a GPS/Map element.
Display Suggestions
Looks best placed in a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier MOC or alongside other members of the Ultimate Spider-Man 'web-warriors' team like Nova and Iron Fist.
Modification Potential
The head is highly versatile for creating custom Samuel L. Jackson characters (e.g., Mace Windu, Jules Winnfield). The torso is excellent for generic Navy or tactical officer MOCs.
Overall Assessment
A solid, classic Marvel minifigure. While it lacks the back printing of modern figures, its clean design and historical status as the first Nick Fury make it a must-have for completionists.
