Figure ID

Theme
Adventurers
Year Released
2003 - Released during the final wave of the Adventurers theme.
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While he appeared in multiple sets in 2003, the Orient Expedition line had a shorter production run compared to the original Egypt sets, and collector demand for this specific antagonist variant is high.
Head
Yellow classic skin tone. Features a grumpy expression with thick white facial hair (beard and mustache) and a unique black eyepatch with a detailed green/gold mechanical lens (monocle) over the left eye.
Torso
Dark Tan base. Highly detailed printing featuring a buttoned adventurer's shirt, a dark brown satchel strap with bullets/pockets, a green camouflage map tucked into the belt, and a brown waist belt with a silver buckle.
Legs
Dark Tan legs. Features front printing of a brown holster with a pistol on the right thigh and a white decorative tooth or claw hanging from the belt on the left side.
Accessories
Missing in image. Originally came with a black top hat (part 3828) and frequently a chrome silver hook hand or a rifle. This specific variant in sets often carried a map or a gemstone.
Color Scheme
Primary Dark Tan with accents of Dark Brown, Silver, White, and a splash of Green (the map). The yellow head and hands provide the classic LEGO aesthetic contrast.
Printing Details
High quality for the 2003 era. Features torso front printing and leg front printing. There is no back printing on this version, as that was not standard for most figures of this period.
Variants
Several. Previous versions featured a grey suit (Egypt) or a black suit (Dino Island). This Orient Expedition version is the only one in 'Dark Tan' adventurer gear. Some versions have a standard hand instead of a hook.
Condition Notes
Common wear points include the silver printing on the belt buckle and the fine lines of the eyepatch. Check for 'neck cracks' in the torso and looseness in the arm joints which are common in early 2000s dark tan plastic.
Estimated Value
Used (without hat): $12.00 - $18.00 USD. New/Mint: $25.00 - $35.00 USD. The value is heavily dependent on the presence of the original black top hat.
Price (New)
Appeared in sets ranging from the $3.00 'Tigers's Wheel' to the $90.00 'Scorpion Palace'. Not sold individually.
Compatible Sets
7419 Dragon Fortress, 7418 Scorpion Palace, 7414 Elephant Caravan, 7411 Tamerlane's Tomb, and 3014 (Polybag).
Character Background
Lord Sam Sinister (also known as Baron von Barron) is the primary antagonist of the Adventurers theme and the arch-nemesis of Johnny Thunder. He is an unscrupulous treasure hunter often depicted with a hook hand.
Design Notes
This version represents a shift toward more 'realistic' expedition gear compared to his earlier formal villain attire. The monocle-eyepatch is one of the most iconic prints produced during this era.
Similar Minifigures
Johnny Thunder (Orient Expedition), Baron von Barron (Classic), Lord Garmadon (early), and Iron Baron from Ninjago.
Collectibility
High. The Adventurers theme has a massive nostalgic following. Sinister is an essential character for any completionist, and the Orient Expedition variant is the most detailed.
History
First introduced in 1998 as Baron von Barron. The character was renamed Lord Sam Sinister for the Orient Expedition line in 2003 to consolidate naming across international markets.
Interesting Facts
Despite being an 'Orient Expedition' figure, this character's head print was so popular it was later reused for pirates and other villains. The 'map' printed on his torso is actually a reference to the game mechanics of the Orient Expedition board game.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed with his black top hat next to his rival Johnny Thunder. Looks excellent in a museum diorama or a jungle MOC.
Modification Potential
The head is frequently used for custom 'Old Man' or 'Steampunk' minifigures. The dark tan legs are useful for modern military or hiking MOCs.
Overall Assessment
An iconic villain from one of LEGO's most beloved original themes. While the figure in the photo is missing his hat, the torso and leg printing appear to be in good condition, making it a solid mid-tier collector's item.
