Theme
Bionicle
Year Released
2008
Rarity
Uncommon. This version of Antroz was only available in a single mid-priced set within the 2008 Bionicle line.
Head
White head piece with specific black and red printing representing a mask with yellow eyes and red accents. The mold is unique to the 2008 Matoran/Shadow Matoran wave.
Torso
White torso with black skeletal/mechanical printing featuring subtle shading. It uses the specialized Matoran limb elements common to the era rather than standard minifigure arms.
Legs
White short-style legs with no printing. The hips and leg assembly are standard small-scale LEGO parts compatible with System brick plates.
Accessories
Includes two white curved claw/tail pieces (Blade Large with Clip) used as wings or weapons. Often accompanied by a Shadow Leech (not pictured).
Color Scheme
A stark monochrome palette consisting primarily of white and black, with small yellow eye prints and red facial patterns.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the face mask and torso. The printing is sharp and intended to mimic the larger Bionicle Makuta aesthetic.
Variants
This is the 'Shadow Matoran' version. No major production variants exist for this specific minifigure, though Antroz appears as a much larger 'Titan' figure (Set 8691).
Condition Notes
Common wear points include the clip on the wing accessories which can stress and snap. White plastic is highly susceptible to UV yellowing over time.
Estimated Value
Used complete: $8 - $12 USD. New/Sealed in set context: $40 - $60 USD. Individual parts are worth $1-$3 each.
Price (New)
Retail price of set 8947 was $5.99 USD in 2008. The figure represents nearly 100% of the set value.
Compatible Sets
8947 Radiak (Note: While named Radiak in official packaging, this figure is part of the Antroz/Shadow Matoran lore) and 8691 Antroz as a pilot.
Character Background
Antroz is the leader of the Brotherhood of Makuta's task force in Karda Nui. In this small form, he is a Shadow Matoran corrupted by Shadow Leeches.
Design Notes
Represents the transition period where Bionicle utilized more 'System' style connection points while retaining specialized Technic-based limb molds.
Similar Minifigures
Gavla, Kirop, and Vamprah (other 2008 Shadow Matoran); standard 2008 Matoran like Tanma or Solek.
Collectibility
Moderate. High nostalgia value for Bionicle fans, but less demand from general LEGO System collectors. Stable value appreciation.
History
Part of the final major narrative arc of the original Bionicle run. This release marked a shift toward smaller, more affordable character sets.
Interesting Facts
The mask printing is actually a simplification of the much larger Antroz Titan mask mold. This figure was designed to 'link' onto the back of the larger Bionicle sets.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed attached to the back of the larger Antroz Titan (8691) or on a black baseplate to make the white highlights pop.
Modification Potential
The claw pieces are popular in MOCs for dragon wings or organic shapes. The head is frequently used for custom cyborg minifigures.
Overall Assessment
A niche but iconic piece of LEGO history. Excellent for Bionicle completionists but lacks the versatility of modern licensed minifigures.
