cas119 · Castle
Forestmen · 1987-1990

Figure ID
cas119
Theme
Castle
Year Released
1987-1990
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While Forestmen are a beloved classic faction, this specific blue-clothed variant is harder to find in pristine condition than the standard green versions.
Head
Classic LEGO smiley face (2 dots for eyes and a curved smile) on a yellow head. The head is topped with a Black Pointed Hood/Cowl (part 4502c).
Torso
Light Gray torso with blue arms and yellow hands. The printing features an iconic Forestmen design with a yellow V-neck opening, black laces tied in a bow, a black belt with a yellow rectangular buckle, and a small brown pouch/money bag on the side.
Legs
Solid Blue standard legs on a solid Blue hip piece. No printing on the legs.
Accessories
Brown Pitchfork (part 3959). Note: The standard cas119 usually carries a bow and quiver; the pitchfork seen here is a common medieval farmer or peasant accessory.
Color Scheme
A striking palette of Light Gray, Blue, and Yellow, accented by Black and Brown details. This blue-based version stands out against the more common green Forestmen.
Printing Details
High-quality vintage pad printing. The details are simple but sharp, characteristic of the late 80s 'Classic Castle' era. Printing is limited to the front of the torso.
Variants
There are several Forestmen variants including green tunics (most common), red tunics, and versions with different headgear like plumed caps or different colored hoods/colls.
Condition Notes
Common wear points include fraying on the torso printing (especially the belt area), loose arm joints, and 'bite marks' on the pitchfork. The black hood is prone to dust buildup in the fabric textures.
Estimated Value
Used Complete: $12 - $18 USD; New/Mint: $30+ USD. Higher prices are fetched for figures with perfect torso printing and stiff joints.
Price (New)
N/A - Originally sold within sets priced between $3.00 (small polybags/box sets) and $30.00 (the larger hideout sets).
Compatible Sets
Specifically appears in Set 6066: Camouflaged Outpost (1987) and Set 1917: King's Catapult (1993).
Character Background
The Forestmen were LEGO's interpretation of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. They lived in camouflaged forest hideouts and were known for their archery and defiance of the Black Falcons and Crusaders.
Design Notes
The pointed cowl (part 4502) was a revolutionary mold at the time, providing a 'rogue' or 'peasant' aesthetic that differed from the traditional knight helmets.
Similar Minifigures
Forestwoman (cas139), Green Forestman (cas128), and newer 'Forest Elf' versions from the Collectible Minifigure Series.
Collectibility
High. The Forestmen are among the top three most collected classic Castle factions. Sentiment is extremely positive due to nostalgia and the unique 'nature' theme.
History
Launched in 1987, the Forestmen introduced a 'third faction' to the Castle world, focusing on stealth and environmental sets rather than stone fortresses.
Interesting Facts
The blue-clothed Forestman is often considered the 'scout' or 'peasant' role within the group, as blue was a color typically associated with the common people in early LEGO Castle lore.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed in a forest diorama or alongside Set 6066 Camouflaged Outpost. Looks excellent with a group of 3-5 other Forestmen in various colors.
Modification Potential
Excellent base for a medieval civilian or rogue. The torso is highly sought after by MOC builders for creating townspeople or farmers.
Overall Assessment
An iconic piece of LEGO history. While this specific figure is missing its traditional bow/quiver, the figure itself is in excellent condition and remains a staple for any serious Castle collector.
