Figure ID
sw0002
Theme
Star Wars
Year Released
1999 - Released in the very first wave of LEGO Star Wars sets
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While it appeared in several sets between 1999 and 2003, it is highly sought after as a first-edition legacy figure.
Head
Standard yellow minifigure head with no printing (covered by helmet).
Torso
Light Gray torso with green Mandalorian armor plating, a computer interface, and a reddish-brown belt print. The back is unprinted.
Legs
Light Gray legs with a reddish-brown hip connector and a brown vertical line simulating a holster/utility strap.
Accessories
Green Mandalorian helmet with antenna (rangefinder) and a green jetpack. Usually equipped with a black blaster rifle (not pictured).
Color Scheme
Green, Light Gray, and Reddish Brown. This uses the 'classic' LEGO gray which was later discontinued and replaced by Light Bluish Gray.
Printing Details
Simple, bold pad printing. Typical of the late 90s, it lacks the fine detail or weathering seen on modern 'The Book of Boba Fett' iterations.
Variants
The sw0002a variant has a different jetpack attachment. The most famous variant is the Cloud City version (sw0107) with printed arms and legs.
Condition Notes
Prone to 'torso cracking' under the arms and heel cracks. The green printing on the torso can scratch easily. Key check: ensure it is Light Gray, not the newer Light Bluish Gray.
Estimated Value
Used: $25 - $45 USD; New: $100+ (as part of a sealed set).
Price (New)
Originally included in sets ranging from $6.00 (Slave I smaller builds) to $100 (Cloud City 10123 context).
Compatible Sets
7144 Slave I (2000), 3341 Star Wars #2 Minifig Pack (2000), 4476 Jabba's Prize (2003), 7153 Jango Fett's Slave I (Technically different, but same era).
Character Background
Boba Fett is the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter, first introduced in the Star Wars Holiday Special and Empire Strikes Back.
Design Notes
This figure is iconic for its simplicity. The helmet/jetpack mold remained a staple for over a decade with very few changes.
Similar Minifigures
sw0107 (Cloud City Boba Fett), sw0054 (Jango Fett), sw0396 (Boba Fett - Bluish Gray).
Collectibility
High. As the first-ever LEGO Boba Fett, it is a cornerstone for Star Wars collectors and holds its value extremely well.
History
Launched in 1999, this figure helped establish Star Wars as LEGO's most successful licensed theme.
Interesting Facts
Early versions of this figure utilized a specific shade of brown that was more prone to becoming brittle over time.
Display Suggestions
Display alongside the classic 7144 Slave I or in a 'History of Fett' evolution case with modern versions.
Modification Potential
Collectors often swap the yellow head for a 'flesh' tone or a printed face, though this reduces 'purist' collector value.
Overall Assessment
A legendary minifigure. While technologically simple compared to modern prints, its nostalgia factor and status as 'the original' make it a 9/10 for any serious collector.
