Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While it was available in a mid-sized set and a spinner, the Ninjago DX line is highly sought after by nostalgic collectors.
Head
Standard yellow LEGO head with Zane's original Pilot-era expression characterized by thick, slanted eyebrows and a determined scowl. Includes the wrapped white Ninja cowl/headwrap.
Torso
White torso with a wrap design. Features the iconic DX 'Golden Dragon' printing on the front left chest, which continues to the back. Black hands and white arms.
Legs
White legs and hips. The printing features a white belt/sash with grey shading to indicate folds in the fabric; no printing on the feet or sides.
Accessories
Missing in image. Originally came with a golden Shuriken of Ice and/or a silver katana depending on the set. This specific version often included a spinner base.
Color Scheme
Primary white with gold, black, and dark red accents for the dragon and belt details. Represents the Elemental Master of Ice.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing typical of 2011. The gold on the torso has a slight metallic sheen. The back features the character's name 'ZANE' printed in the Ninjago script.
Variants
Standard Zane (Pilot), Kimono Zane, and Rebooted Zane. The DX version is distinguished specifically by the large gold dragon emblem on the torso.
Condition Notes
Prone to 'torso cracks' under the arms and fading of the white plastic into a yellowish tint if exposed to sun. The gold print on the chest can rub off with heavy play.
Estimated Value
Used Complete: $12 - $18 USD; New/Sealed in bag: $30+ USD. The torso alone is the most valuable part.
Price (New)
Available in set 2260 ($14.99) or Spinner set 2171 ($9.99) in 2011.
Compatible Sets
2260 Ice Dragon Attack, 2171 Zane DX Spinner, and 2507 Fire Temple (brief cameo).
Character Background
Zane is the Elemental Master of Ice and, as later revealed, a Nindroid. The DX (Dragon Xtreme) suit represents the power the ninja gained after befriending their elemental dragons.
Design Notes
One of the first 'power-up' variants in Ninjago history. The use of a large animal motif across the torso was a departure from the more minimalist Pilot designs.
Similar Minifigures
Kai DX (njo009), Jay DX (njo025), Cole DX (njo024), and the later ZX versions of the same characters.
Collectibility
High. Completionist Ninjago collectors view the DX suits as essential 'Holy Grail' items from the theme's early years.
History
Debuted in late 2011 as part of the 'Way of the Ninja' storyline where the ninja traveled to the Underworld to rescue Nya.
Interesting Facts
The 'DX' stands for Dragon Xtreme. This is one of the few early Zane figures that does not explicitly hint at his robotic nature, maintaining his 'human' mystery.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed on a 2011-era spinner base or in a shadow box alongside the other three DX ninja to highlight the matching dragon designs.
Modification Potential
Excellent for purist customs of other white-clad ninja, though the specific 'Zane' print on the back makes it character-specific.
Overall Assessment
A quintessential early Ninjago collectible. Despite its age, the printing holds up well, and it remains a Top 5 most iconic Zane variant for long-term fans.
