Superman - Dark Blue Suit

Figure ID

sh077

Theme

DC Universe Super Heroes

Year Released

2013

Rarity

Uncommon. While the Man of Steel sets were mass-produced, this specific variant was only released in three sets during the film's marketing cycle and is now retired.

Head

Light flesh, dual-sided printing: one side features a determined/angry expression with red 'Heat Vision' eyes appearing in the pupils; the other side is a stern, neutral expression. Hair is the Black Minifigure Hair Swept Back with Forelock (Part 64798).

Torso

Dark blue torso with 'Man of Steel' style Superman 'S' shield and muscle definition printed in gold, red, and light blue. Back printing continues the muscular suit textures. Features dark blue arms and light flesh hands.

Legs

Dark blue legs with silver/light blue printing on the hips and front of legs to represent the Kryptonian suit detailing. No side printing.

Accessories

Includes a soft, spongy red fabric cape (the newer style used at the time) and the aforementioned black hair piece. Note that some sets included additional 'Power Blast' elements, but they are not character-specific.

Color Scheme

Primary colors are Dark Blue and Red, with metallic gold and silver accents in the printing to mimic the cinematic costume's textured look.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing typical of the 2013 era. The 'S' shield is the standout feature, featuring fine dark red lines over a gold/yellow background. Printing covers the torso (front/back) and legs (front).

Variants

This Cinematic 'Man of Steel' version (sh077) is distinct from the Comic Book version (sh003) and the 'Justice League' BvS version (sh219), the latter of which features slightly brighter colors and different muscle printing.

Condition Notes

The red fabric cape is prone to fraying at the edges and creasing at the neck holes. Check for 'cape rub' on the back printing. Dark blue parts may show white stress marks at the leg joints if played with heavily.

Estimated Value

New/New Condition: $12.00 - $18.00; Used Complete: $8.00 - $11.00; Incomplete: $4.00 - $6.00.

Price (New)

Originally available in sets ranging from $12.99 (Superman: Metropolis Showdown) to $49.99 (Battle of Smallville). Not sold individually.

Compatible Sets

76002 Superman: Metropolis Showdown (2013), 76003 Superman: Battle of Smallville (2013), and 76009 Superman: Black Zero Escape (2013).

Character Background

Based on Henry Cavill's portrayal of Kal-El in Zack Snyder's 2013 film 'Man of Steel'. This version represents the alien Kryptonian biological suit rather than the traditional 'tights' of the comics.

Design Notes

This figure marked a departure from classic Superman designs by removing the 'red trunks' to reflect the modern cinematic aesthetic. The hair mold (64798) was perfected here to capture the iconic Superman 'curl'.

Similar Minifigures

Superman (sh219), General Zod (sh078), Faora (sh080), and Superman - Black Suit (sh087).

Collectibility

High demand among DC fans specifically looking to complete the Snyder-verse 'Man of Steel' lineup. Value is relatively stable but increases if the cape is in pristine condition.

History

First released in May 2013. It was the first time Superman received a 'Dark Blue' base color instead of the standard LEGO 'Blue' or 'Bright Blue'.

Interesting Facts

The 'heat vision' head is a fan favorite; it was one of the first times LEGO used this specific printing technique for Superman to differentiate his power usage from his standard look.

Display Suggestions

Display alongside General Zod or in a 'Metropolis' city skyline MOC. Use a clear 1x2 brick or trans-clear bar to pose him in a flying position to highlight the red cape.

Modification Potential

Excellent for 'Snyder-verse' purist customs. The head is frequently used by MOC creators for other powerful characters due to the red eye effect.

Overall Assessment

A solid, highly screen-accurate minifigure. It is a must-have for DC cinematic collectors, offering a grit and detail level that the classic versions lack. Quality is 9/10.
