Year Released

2022. Released in May as part of the 71033 Muppets Collectible Minifigures series. This marked the first official collaboration between LEGO and Disney’s Muppets franchise.

Rarity

Uncommon/Retired. As a CMF figure, it was sold in blind bags, making specific characters harder to find during the initial run. Since the series is now retired, it is only available on the secondary market.

Head

Unique molded dual-plastic head. Features Statler's iconic grumpy expression, a large bulbous nose, and white bushy mustache. The hair is molded in white on the sides and back, reflecting his balding pattern. It is a single-piece mold that does not support standard hairpieces.

Torso

Dark brown suit jacket with lapels printed on the front. Features a light blue shirt underneath with a gold/brown polka-dot tie. Subtle back printing depicts the continuation of the suit jacket seams.

Legs

Standard dark brown legs with a dark brown hip piece. No printing is present on the legs or the sides/back of the hips.

Accessories

The figure is pictured without its official accessories. When new, it includes a laptop computer (with a 'ZZZ' sticker/print) and a white 2x2 plate printed with a theatrical program.

Color Scheme

Primary colors are dark brown (suit) and light flesh (head). Accents include white for the mustache/hair and a gold/sand-yellow for the tie pattern.

Printing Details

High quality pad printing on the torso. The facial expression relies heavily on the 3D mold rather than complex printing, though the eyes have clean black pupils and drooping lids to convey his bored/unimpressed personality.

Variants

There are no official LEGO variants of this specific Statler figure, though his partner Waldorf (colmu08) was released in the same series with a near-identical suit but distinct head mold.

Condition Notes

The molded head is made of a slightly softer plastic than the torso; check for 'flesh' colored scuffs on the nose or hair. The torso is prone to micro-scratches on the dark brown glossy surface. Check the neck post for cracks.

Estimated Value

Used (loose): $4.00 - $6.00 USD. New (sealed in original foil): $7.00 - $10.00 USD. Prices are stable due to high volume production, though full sets of 12 Muppets carry a premium.

Price (New)

Original MSRP was $4.99 USD per blind bag. The price-per-minifigure is higher than standard LEGO sets but reflects the unique molding costs.

Compatible Sets

71033-7 (Statler Individual Bag), 71033-13 (Full Series Box), 66707 (6-Pack Muppets Bundle).

Character Background

Statler, along with Waldorf, is one-half of the Muppets' iconic heckling duo. Known for criticizing Fozzie Bear and the Muppet Show from their balcony box, he first appeared in the 1975 pilot.

Design Notes

LEGO utilized specialized 3D molds for the Muppets to maintain Jim Henson’s specific puppet silhouettes, departing from the traditional minifigure head shape to ensure character accuracy.

Similar Minifigures

Waldorf (colmu08), Kermit the Frog (colmu01), Fozzie Bear (colmu02), and other 71033 Muppet series characters.

Collectibility

High for Muppet fans and CMF completionists. While currently affordable, Muppet figures tend to hold value well due to the cross-generational appeal of the IP.

History

Part of a landmark wave of licensed CMF series that included Looney Tunes and Disney. It demonstrated LEGO's ability to create highly accurate non-standard molds for legacy characters.

Interesting Facts

The laptop included in the original set is a reference to the modern era of the Muppets where they frequently engage with digital media, though the 'ZZZ' print suggests Statler is falling asleep while using it.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed alongside Waldorf on a custom-built 'Balcony Box' MOC. They are designed to be a pair and look incomplete without each other.

Modification Potential

The head is highly specialized and difficult to use for other characters. The suit torso is excellent for custom 'old man' civilian figures or Victorian-era MOCs.

Overall Assessment

A perfect 10/10 for character accuracy. While the legs are simple, the unique head mold captures the soul of the character perfectly. Essential for any Muppets fan.
