Ultron Sentries (Ultron Sentry Officer / Ultron Sentry)

Figure ID

sh167 / sh166

Theme

Marvel Super Heroes

Year Released

2015. Released during the peak of the Marvel Cinematic Universe "Phase 2", coinciding with the theatrical release of the second Avengers film.

Rarity

Common to Uncommon. While these were mass-produced for the 'Age of Ultron' sets, they were primarily army-builders and are now discontinued since the theme has moved on to newer MCU phases.

Head

Light Bluish Gray with detailed mechanical printing. Features glowing yellow eyes and a complex silver/gold robotic face pattern. One version (Officer) includes more elaborate gold detailing on the 'forehead' area.

Torso

Light Bluish Gray with intricate mechanical printing. Design features a silver chest plate with small blue circular ports and gold mechanical 'rib' detailing. Matching printing on the back depicts the rear mechanical chassis. Hands are Light Bluish Gray.

Legs

Dark Bluish Gray, unprinted. The lack of leg printing was a common cost-saving measure for army-builder characters in this era.

Accessories

Usually included transparent blue power blasts or stud shooters in retail sets; however, the figure in the image is shown without accessories.

Color Scheme

A monochrome base of Light Bluish Gray and Dark Bluish Gray, accented with Silver, Gold, and Trans-Light Blue highlights in the printing.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the head and torso (front and back). The alignment is typically very sharp, featuring metallic inks to simulate robot parts.

Variants

There are two main variants that share this torso: sh166 (standard sentry with simpler head) and sh167 (officer with more gold on the head). The torso also appeared in more damaged versions for other sets.

Condition Notes

Check for 'bite marks' on the head stud and cracking on the sides of the torso (under the armpits). The gray plastic is durable but prone to visible scratches if played with heavily.

Estimated Value

Used Complete: $3.00 - $5.00 USD. New: $7.00 - $9.00 USD. Value is low because they were meant to be collected in bulk for army building.

Price (New)

Originally included in sets ranging from the $12.99 (Iron Skull Sub Attack) to the $29.99 (The Avengers Quinjet City Chase) and the $12.99 Sentry Pursuit.

Compatible Sets

76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron, 76031 The Hulkbuster Smash, 76032 The Avengers Quinjet City Chase.

Character Background

Fodder drones created by the rogue AI Ultron to serve as his infinite army. They share a hive mind and appear in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Design Notes

The use of gold and silver metallic ink makes the figure pop under light. The head printing is remarkably detailed compared to older robotic minifigures from themes like Exo-Force.

Similar Minifigures

Ultron Prime (sh175), Ultimate Ultron (sh176), and Marvel's Outriders or Chitauri soldiers from later MCU waves.

Collectibility

Moderate. Highly desirable for fans wanting to recreate the Battle of Sokovia in MOCs, but individual value is capped due to high supply.

History

These marked the first time LEGO produced an 'army builder' pack for the MCU (Set 76029), a format that remains popular today.

Interesting Facts

The head print is actually designed to look like the drone is 'screaming' slightly, mimicking the mechanical hinges seen in the film's concept art.

Display Suggestions

Display in large groups behind an Ultron Prime figure, or in a battle scene against the 2015 Hulkbuster or Iron Man Mark 43.

Modification Potential

Excellent for sci-fi MOCs. The heads and torsos make great generic 'robot' parts for space themes or cyberpunk dioramas.

Overall Assessment

A solid, well-detailed army builder. While it lacks leg printing, the intricate torso and head prints make it a standout for fans of the MCU's robotic villains.
