Theme

Legends of Chima

Year Released

2014. It debuted in the summer wave of the Legends of Chima line, a major original LEGO IP that was reaching its peak story arc at the time.

Rarity

Uncommon. While he appeared in a few sets, the most desirable version features the translucent blue 'frozen' limbs. Being the primary antagonist, he was produced in moderate quantities but is harder to find in mint condition.

Head

The figure uses a white head with a specialized Saber-tooth Tiger mask/helmet in Sand Blue with detailed printing including light blue eyes and white fang markings. It is a unique mold for the Saber-tooth tribe.

Torso

The torso is white with detailed copper-colored armor printing, featuring a blue 'Chi' orb in the center. A defining feature is the asymmetric printing, with one arm being solid white and the other being translucent light blue to represent his frozen curse.

Legs

The legs are dual-colored and asymmetric: one leg is white with paw/claw printing, and the other is translucent light blue with 'ice' detailing and bone-like prints. The hip piece is dark blue with fur/armor printing.

Accessories

Typically comes with a large 'Saber-tooth' staff or a cape. The specific figure in the image is missing its cloth cape (which is usually dark red/maroon) and its signature ice weapons.

Color Scheme

Primary colors are White, Sand Blue, and Translucent Light Blue. Accents include copper, dark blue, and light blue for the 'Chi' energy source.

Printing Details

Highly detailed pad printing on the torso (front and back), head, and legs. Especially notable is the print alignment on the translucent blue plastic, which was a technical achievement for the 2014 era.

Variants

There are three main variants: the standard version (loc082), a version in a 'Cape' polybag, and a variations in the character's armor plating depending on set size.

Condition Notes

Common wear points include the translucent limbs, which can develop stress fractures or 'clouding.' The cape is often frayed or missing. Check the clip-on headpiece for loose clutch power over the actual head.

Estimated Value

Used: $8 - $15 USD. New/Mint: $20 - $30 USD. The value is largely driven by the unique translucent parts.

Price (New)

The character appeared in sets ranging from the $14.99 70142 Eris' Fire Eagle Flyer to the $119.99 70146 Flying Phoenix Fire Temple.

Compatible Sets

70147 Sir Fangar's Ice Fortress, 70146 Flying Phoenix Fire Temple, 70142 Eris' Fire Eagle Flyer, and 70156 Fire vs. Ice Speedorz.

Character Background

Sir Fangar is the leader of the Hunter Tribes (Saber-tooth, Mammoth, and Vulture). He is the main villain of the Chima 'Fire vs. Ice' season, leading an army that was frozen for millennia and seeks to freeze the entire world of Chima.

Design Notes

Significant for its use of translucent plastic as a 'biological' part of the character's body rather than just an accessory. The head mold is exclusive to the Saber-tooth tribe design.

Similar Minifigures

Mungus (Mammoth tribe), Vardy (Vulture tribe), and Stealthor. Collectors of Chima often group him with other tribe leaders like Laval or Cragger.

Collectibility

High for Chima enthusiasts. He is the most iconic villain of the theme's later years and essential for a 'villains' collection. Demand is stable but slowly rising as Chima nostalgia grows.

History

Chima was LEGO's successor to Ninjago (though both ran concurrently eventually). Sir Fangar represented the shift toward more complex, 'mutated' minifigure designs with multi-material parts.

Interesting Facts

The 'frozen' limbs are a result of the character being trapped in ice for centuries. Despite being a 'scary' villain, the character was voiced in a sophisticated, almost aristocratic manner in the TV series.

Display Suggestions

Display in a snowy or 'frozen' MOC. Looks best when backlit so the translucent blue arm and leg can catch the light. Best paired with the 'Fire' version of Laval.

Modification Potential

The translucent blue limbs are highly sought after by MOC builders for creating elemental characters, ice golems, or cyborgs.

Overall Assessment

A standout minifigure from the Chima era. The asymmetry and use of translucent parts make it a 9/10 for design. Highly recommended for fans of anthropomorphic LEGO themes.
