Jawa (Tattered Cape)

Figure ID

sw0896

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2018 (First appeared in Mos Eisley Cantina set 75205)

Rarity

Uncommon. While available in multiple sets, this specific version with the tattered cloth cape and light-tan face accents is more sought after than the older 2005 versions.

Head

The head is a black 1x1 brick modified with printing of glowing orange/reddish eyes. It is typically covered by a Dark Brown hood and a tattered Dark Brown neck-cloth cape.

Torso

Dark Brown torso containing printing for bandoliers crossing front and back in a reddish-brown color with silver buckle highlights. Hands are black.

Legs

Dark Brown short legs (fixed, non-bending) without printing, consistent with the small stature of the species.

Accessories

Usually equipped with an Ion Blaster (a black megaphone piece with a trans-neon green round 1x1 plate) and a unique ragged cloth cape that fits over the neck.

Color Scheme

Primarily Dark Brown and Black, representing the scavenged robes of the Tatooine desert dwellers, with glowing orange-yellow eye accents.

Printing Details

Pad printing on the torso front and back; the eyes are printed on a black head component. The line work on the bandoliers is sharp and features metallic silver ink for the buckles.

Variants

Variants include sw1034 (cloth cape but different torso) and sw0590 (no cloth cape, printed face on head). Earlier classic versions (sw0141) used a different hood mold and face style.

Condition Notes

The Dark Brown plastic is part of the 'Brittle Brown' era, making the torso clips and legs prone to cracking. The cloth cape often frays or gets lost.

Estimated Value

Used: $5 - $8 USD | New (extracted): $10 - $15 USD. The value is largely held in the torso and the cloth cape component.

Price (New)

Originally available in Set 75205 ($39.99 MSRP) and Set 75198 ($14.99 MSRP), making them roughly $3-$4 per figure at retail.

Compatible Sets

75205 Mos Eisley Cantina (2018), 75198 Tatooine Battle Pack (2018), 75220 Sandcrawler (2018).

Character Background

Jawas are meter-tall scavengers from Tatooine. They hunt for droids and scrap metal to resell to moisture farmers using their massive Treaded Sandcrawlers.

Design Notes

This version represents a mid-evolution design where LEGO moved away from simple printed heads to incorporating textured cloth elements for a 'dirtier' Star Wars aesthetic.

Similar Minifigures

Ewoks (similar size/legs), Ugnaughts, and other Jawa variants like the 2005 classic yellow-eyed Jawa.

Collectibility

High for army builders; Star Wars fans often buy 10-20 Jawas to populate Sandcrawler or Cantina MOCs, keeping demand steady.

History

Jawas first appeared in LEGO form in 2005 (Sandcrawler 10144). The design remained largely unchanged for nearly a decade before modern updates added more torso detail and cloth capes in 2018.

Interesting Facts

The 'eyes' of a Jawa are actually glowing gemstones or lenses within their hoods to protect them from the harsh twin suns of Tatooine.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed in groups of three or more next to a Sandcrawler or droids like R2-D2 to show scale. Use warm LED lighting to mimic a desert sunset.

Modification Potential

Excellent for 'scavenger' MOCs. The bandolier torso is frequently used for custom wasteland survivors or steampunk characters.

Overall Assessment

A quintessential Star Wars minifigure. While the image provided is extremely blurry and features only the head/hood area, it is a staple of the Tatooine sub-theme and essential for any Star Wars collection.
