Theme
The Lord of the Rings
Year Released
2012. He debuted specifically in the first wave of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets following the huge anticipation for the licensed Peter Jackson trilogy theme.
Rarity
Uncommon to Rare. While not a limited polybag, he was only available in one specific mid-priced set that was retired in 2013, making him highly sought after for those completing the Fellowship.
Head
The head is missing in the image provided. On the official figure (lor012), it features a dual-sided face with a cheerful smile on one side and a worried/frightened expression on the other, featuring light flesh skin tone and medium nougat wavy hobbit hair.
Torso
Dark Stone Gray (Dark Bluish Gray) torso with front and back printing. The design features a dark gray tunic with a brown belt and a silver buckle, as well as a rope strap across the chest and hood detailing on the back. It has light flesh hands.
Legs
Dark Stone Gray (Dark Bluish Gray) short legs (hobbit/child style) with no printing. These legs do not bend, which was standard for short legs in 2012.
Accessories
The official set (9473) includes a small Elven blade (Shortsword) and sometimes a fish or a backpack. The image shows the figure without any accessories.
Color Scheme
A monochromatic base of Dark Bluish Gray (Dark Stone Gray) with accents of reddish brown for the belt and light flesh for the hands.
Printing Details
High-quality pad printing on the torso front and back. The lines are crisp, depicting fabric folds (the tunic) and the texture of the rope strap. There is no leg or arm printing.
Variants
This is the original 2012 version. There is a later variant from 2023 (Rivenell set) which features much more detailed leg printing and dual-molded legs to represent bare hobbit feet.
Condition Notes
The torso shows some light wear on the neckline where the head would attachment. Common wear points include torso cracks on the sides and loose leg-to-torso clutch. The printing appears intact.
Estimated Value
The used complete figure is valued at approximately $25 - $35 USD. The incomplete version shown (missing head, hair, and accessories) is valued at roughly $8 - $12 USD based on the torso and legs alone.
Price (New)
He appeared in set 9473 which retailed for $79.99 USD in 2012. He was not sold individually.
Compatible Sets

Character Background
Peregrin Took, known as Pippin, is one of Frodo's closest friends and a member of the Fellowship of the Ring. This specific outfit represents his early quest attire before receiving Gondorian armor.
Design Notes
The use of the rope strap is a specific design choice to reflect the gear the Hobbits carried leaving Rivendell. The short legs were the standard non-articulated variant used for all children and Hobbits at the time.
Similar Minifigures
Merry (lor016), Frodo (lor001), Samwise Gamgee (lor006), and the updated 2023 Pippin (lor113).
Collectibility
High. Lord of the Rings fans are completionists, and finding an original 2012 Pippin is essential for a full 9-member Fellowship display.
History
Pippin was part of the very first wave of LEGO Middle-earth figures. This era marked a transition into highly detailed licensed torsos that stayed very true to movie costumes.
Interesting Facts
Despite being a main character, this version of Pippin only ever appeared in one 'play-scale' set (The Mines of Moria) before the theme was discontinued for nearly a decade.
Display Suggestions
Best displayed alongside the other three Hobbits in a Shire or Moria vignette. Due to the gray torso, he blends well into stone-themed MOCs.
Modification Potential
Excellent for purist customs; the torso is generic enough for use in medieval or fantasy townspeople MOCs. Can be upgraded with 2023 dual-molded hobbit legs for more accuracy.
Overall Assessment
A core piece of the 2012 LOTR collection. While the head and hair are missing here, the torso remains a high-quality, recognizable component of a classic licensed figure.
