Uncommon to Rare. While not a limited promotional item, it appeared in only one iconic set and the theme is now retired, leading to high secondary market demand.

Head

Light Flesh, double-sided printing. One side features a slight smirk/curious expression, the other a worried/scared expression. Topped with a Dark Orange wavy Hobbit hair piece.

Torso

Dark Red jacket over an Olive Green waistcoat (vest) and a tan shirt with a cravat. Features detailed printing including buttons and lapels. Dark red arms with light flesh hands.

Legs

Short Tan legs (non-articulated), standard for Hobbit characters to represent their shorter stature.

Accessories

Includes 'Sting' (the Elven shortsword/dagger) in Flat Silver. Note: In some sets, he also came with a printed 1x1 tile representing the contract from Thorin Oakenshield.

Color Scheme

A warm palette featuring Dark Red, Olive Green, Tan, and Dark Orange, accurately reflecting the Shire's aesthetic and Bilbo’s cinematic attire.

Printing Details

High-quality pad printing on the torso (front and back) and head. Level of detail on the cravat and waistcoat is exceptional for the 2012 era.

Variants

Other variants include lor001 (Tan coat), lor029 (Blue coat/Burlap sack), and lor011 (Blue coat from the Target exclusive Blu-ray).

Condition Notes

Common wear points include hair piece rubbing (losing texture) and torso cracks under the arms. Short legs are prone to loose clutch power over time.

Character Background

The protagonist of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit'. This specific design depicts Bilbo at the start of his adventure in Bag End, portrayed by Martin Freeman.

Design Notes

The hair mold was specifically designed for the Hobbit/LOTR line to capture the iconic 'curly' hobbit look. This was one of the first themes to use Olive Green effectively.

Similar Minifigures

Frodo Baggins (lor002), Samwise Gamgee (lor004), and other versions of Bilbo Baggins such as the Blue Coat version (lor011).

Collectibility

High. The LOTR/Hobbit license is one of the most sought-after retired lines. Collectors prioritize 'An Unexpected Gathering' figures highly.

History

Released during the first wave of The Hobbit sets. It marked LEGO's return to high-fantasy licenses after years of focusing on Star Wars and Pirates.

Interesting Facts

The short sword 'Sting' included here is a unique mold that was highly anticipated by fans for its accuracy to the Peter Jackson films.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed inside a MOC of Bag End or on a custom grassy baseplate alongside Gandalf the Grey and the 13 Dwarves.

Modification Potential

The torso and head are excellent for purist MOCs of 19th-century gentlemen or Victorian-era villagers due to the waistcoat/cravat print.

Overall Assessment

An essential minifigure for any Middle-earth collector. It perfectly captures Martin Freeman's portrayal and remains the definitive 'Shire Bilbo' figure.
