Death Trooper (Specialist / Commander)

Figure ID

sw0796

Theme

Star Wars

Year Released

2016 - First released in the Krennic's Imperial Shuttle set (75156) to coincide with the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare. While not a limited convention exclusive, this specific 'specialist' version with the pauldron only appeared in two sets (one being a large $90 USD set), making it harder to army build than the standard version.

Head

A standard solid black minifigure head is used underneath the helmet. The helmet is a unique mold featuring green visor dots and integrated breathing filters, specific to the Death Trooper design.

Torso

Black torso with highly detailed armor plating print in dark grey, featuring a distinct red band across the chest and gold/sand yellow weathered 'battle damage' or wiring details. Features a black pauldron piece (neck bracket) over the shoulder.

Legs

Black legs with intricate printing on the hips and front of the legs, continuing the tactical armor aesthetic with dark grey knee pads and red sash/utility belt details.

Accessories

Includes a black long blaster rifle (E-11D variant) with a technical scope. The figure's primary distinguishing accessory is the black fabric or plastic pauldron (shoulder guard) that designates its specialist/officer rank.

Color Scheme

Predominantly black and dark bluish grey, with striking accents of bright green (visor), dark red (utility markings), and sand yellow (exposed mechanical details).

Printing Details

High-fidelity pad printing across the torso and legs. The level of detail in the mechanical weathering is superior to standard stormtroopers of the era. Includes back printing under the pauldron.

Variants

The standard Death Trooper (sw0807) lacks the pauldron and features slightly different torso weathering. There is also a version in the 2024 sets with updated helmet molds.

Condition Notes

The helmet and armor print are prone to surface scratches on the black glossy plastic. Check the pauldron for fraying (if fabric) or stress marks. Black plastic shows dust and fingerprints very easily.

Estimated Value

Used: $15 - $25 USD; New: $30 - $40 USD. Prices fluctuate based on the popularity of Rogue One and Andor media.

Price (New)

Originally included in set 75156 ($89.99) and later in a slightly cheaper set. It was never sold as a stand-alone figure.

Compatible Sets

75156 Krennic's Imperial Shuttle (2016), 75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack (2017).

Character Background

Death Troopers served as elite bodyguards and specialists for high-ranking Imperial officers like Director Krennic and Grand Admiral Thrawn. They are known for their height, black armor, and scrambled vocal encryption.

Design Notes

The helmet is one of the most accurate molds LEGO has produced for the Star Wars line, perfectly capturing the elongated sinister look of the movie costume without being overly bulky.

Similar Minifigures

Standard Death Trooper (sw0807), Shadow Trooper, Imperial Shoretrooper, and the Rogue One era Darth Vader.

Collectibility

High. Imperial trooper variants are perpetually in demand for 'army building' and the specialist version is favored by collectors of high-ranking Imperial officers.

History

Debuted in late 2016. Since their introduction, they have become a fan-favorite 'cool' trooper, seeing re-releases in various media-related sets including those for The Mandalorian.

Interesting Facts

The voice of Death Troopers in the films is actually a heavily processed and scrambled vocal track, a detail LEGO fans often represent by using the green visor print to imply their tech-heavy nature.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed alongside Director Krennic or in a squad of 3-5 standard Death Troopers. Use a stark white or light grey background to make the black armor contrast sharply.

Modification Potential

Excellent for MOCs. The torso and legs are often used for custom bounty hunters or black-ops troopers. Compatible with Cape Cantina or BrickArms custom tactical gear.

Overall Assessment

A top-tier trooper minifigure. Its unique mold, dark color palette, and high level of detail make it a standout in any Imperial collection. Rated 9/10 for design and desirability.
