Theme

Year Released

2016 - Debuted in the LEGO Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina set (75052) re-release cycle context, though specifically unique to the 75159 Death Star and 75290 Cantina era evolution.

Rarity

Uncommon to Rare - He was exclusive to the large 75159 Death Star set released in 2016, making him difficult to obtain without purchasing a massive $500 USD set.

Head

Unique molded Kubaz head piece in Dark Bluish Gray with a long snout/trunk, circular goggles, and a black hood piece attached/molded to the back. This is a single-piece mold meant to represent the alien biology.

Torso

Dark Bluish Gray with simple Imperial-style belt and tunic printing. No back printing is visible under the cape, but standard minimalist lines are present. Arms are Dark Bluish Gray with Black hands.

Legs

Plain Dark Bluish Gray unprinted legs with matching hips.

Accessories

Standard black short cape (soft fabric) and usually paired with a small black blaster (not pictured in the user image).

Color Scheme

Monochromatic Dark Bluish Gray and Black, reflecting the character's shadowy nature as an informant.

Printing Details

Minimalist printing. The focus of this figure is the unique head mold rather than intricate torso or leg printing. The belt print is sharp but lacks high complexity.

Variants

This is the only official LEGO version of Garindan produced to date.

Condition Notes

The most common issue is fraying on the black fabric cape and potential 'trunk' damage on the rubbery/plastic head mold if stored poorly. Check for 'neck' stress marks where the head mold meets the torso.

Character Background

Garindan, also known as 'Long-Snoot', is a Kubaz spy who worked for the Empire. He is famous for spotting Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Mos Eisley and reporting them to the sandtroopers.

Design Notes

The highlight is the custom head mold which captures the insectoid goggle-eyes and trunk of the Kubaz species perfectly, a departure from standard minifigure head shapes.

Similar Minifigures

Other Mos Eisley aliens such as Ponda Baba, Dr. Evazan, or Greedo. He shares a similar 'spy' aesthetic with the Ubese Leia (Boushh).

Collectibility

High for Star Wars completionists. Because he is a named character from the original 1977 film with only one version produced, he remains a staple for 'Cantina' collectors.

History

For years, fans requested a Garindan figure. LEGO finally delivered in 2016 as part of the Death Star UCS-style update, filling a significant gap in the A New Hope roster.

Interesting Facts

In the film, Garindan's voice was actually a synthesized recording of John Williams' orchestra playing, distorted to sound like an alien language.

Display Suggestions

Best displayed in a Mos Eisley Cantina MOC or next to a 9490 Droid Escape sandtrooper to recreate the 'snitching' scene.

Modification Potential

The head piece is excellent for MOC-ing other Kubaz characters or generic alien underworld figures. The body is generic and easily swappable.

Overall Assessment

A focused, screen-accurate figure where the value lies entirely in the unique head piece. Essential for fans of the original trilogy's background characters.
